Chapter 1: A Task

Prologue "I'm not the one who killed her. Please believe me." Tears flow down my cheeks, and I wipe them with the back of my hands. He is sitting on the other side of the glass, looking at me with disdain. "Given your other recent successful achievements and your deceit, do you expect me to believe you?" He says in a low-pitched voice and so much contempt. Then he purses his lips when other people stare at us. "After what you did, you deserve to be in there." He whispers, his eyes cold and distant. I find myself shivering. "You are right. I don't know myself anymore." Tears still stream down my face. He gets up from his seat and leaves me touching my side of the glass. "Mam, it's time to go back," the prison warden says. I quietly stand up and follow her back to my cell. ******************* Chapter 1 I have spent the entire night, searching the Internet like a lunatic. Looking for ways on how to seduce a man. The light appears on the window, indicating sunrise, and I groan at the sight. I couldn't really find ways of seducing a new man, just ways on how to seduce your boyfriend or husband, but Wyatt Henderson was a new man, and saying I was afraid of him was an understatement. I take a shower, and wait for Nalo Johnson, who is my best friend and Inaya’s driver to take me to Inaya Pearson-Henderson. "Are you ready?" He glances at me before putting the key in the ignition. "I guess," I exhale. "Why did you agree to do it?" "Like I told you, desperate times Nalo." "Don't worry, it will be all over once you complete the mission." I smile at him, and I turnon the radio. We end up listening to music and singing with our terrible voices. "Mrs Henderson will call me when you ladies are done." He says when we arrive. I nod in response. "Goodluck." He waves as the car drives off, and I wave back. I walk into the store that looks like a fancy closet. "Yes, just send more lingerie, she is losing her patience and we can't afford to lose her." The lady at the reception says to whoever she is calling. "Come on people, the storage room should be empty if it needs to be." The man with a tag written 'manager' says. He turns around, and looks at me, while furrowing his eyebrows. "We don't have any vacancies available." He gives me a fake smile. "Mrs Henderson called me," I show him the fake smile back. "Sorry, you are the lady. I'm so so sorry. Please don't tell her." I walk past him, and he walks behind me, mumbling apologies. I find Inaya sipping champagne as they show her the lingerie collections. "Don't worry, I'm giving you a paid day off." She motions for me to sit on the couch next to hers. The moment I sit, a glass of champagne is placed next to me. She hands me a contract and an NDA. I skim through it, then I see $100 000 twice. I sign and hand the papers to her. “First $100 000 is for being our sort of a housekeeper. I’m paying you in advance. Second $100 000 is for the other job.” I nod in response and watch the poor staff members in fascination. We spend two hours with the staff running around the store like ants, looking for the lingerie that she wants, and she raises her eyebrows every time they show her something. I find it insane to witness the amount of power she has because she has money. Her face finally lights up when she sees a lingerie that she likes. I wear it in the fitting room, and she claps her hands when she sees me. "Wyatt will not know what hit him this time." She smirks. I smile uncomfortably, feeling like a sacrificial lamb to a s*******r. The staff members shower me with complements, and after fitting a matching coat, I change back to my clothes. "Nalo, take her to the beauty salon and get her high heels. I have a meeting to get to." She says when we step outside and find him waiting. Nalo nods in response. “I trust you,” she says as she looks at him in an affectionate smile I have never witnessed on her face before. “I would never do anything to change that.” He grins. “I saw your face when Ina, I mean Mrs Henderson mentioned high heels. Don't you like them?” Nalo glances at me. I nod in response. "An embarrassing childhood story." "Please tell me," he laughs. "I'm not ready," I hide my face behind my hands. “How are you going to walk tomorrow?” “I wanted to ask you a question. How do you know all about Inaya’s arrangement?” “I'm her driver. It’s my job to eavesdrop so that I can gossip with you.” He beams. “That’s why I like you.” He chuckles, and he asks me to spill the tea on the Henderson’s family affairs while I stay with them, and I promise to spare no details. “About tomorrow, I'm going to spend the night trying to walk in heels.” Nalo laughs at me, but he tells me that he believes in me. We go to my room in the motel, and we pick up the bags. The gate immediately opens, and Inaya opens the door, Nalo walk me in, holding two bags while I'm holding two bags as well. “Good luck,” he smiles and walks with Inaya to the gate. "Good evening ladies," Mr Henderson walks in holding a briefcase and takes a swift glance at me. Then he does a double take. "You are Zara?" His expression darkens. My heart tries to leap out of my chest and he offers his hand for a handshake, giving me an evil grin. I extend my shaky hand, and his large hand envelopes mine. "Pleased to finally meet you Zara."
