Chapter 3 - Fake Spell

1730 Words
Andrea     I woke up the next day feeling more refreshed than I had in a very long time. I jumped out of bed and ran to my bathroom.     After releasing my bladder, I jumped in the shower. I was delighted to allow the pleasant water to engulf me in a cloud of steam, and I was happy to be alive.     I had finally let go of the burden of my parents dying to protect me and the pack. They died heroes, and I owed it to them to keep living and enjoying the pleasures that life brings me.     After showering, I picked out a cute light pink sundress, which reached my knees, and I paired it with my light pink flip-flops. Anton always teased me because I preferred little flip-flops to regular sandals. I didn't mind, because I know he was doing it for fun.     Once dressed, I pulled my hair back into a French braid. My mum loved to put my hair into a French braid and taught me how to do it myself when I was only five years old.     She would always say, "Rea, you have the silkiest, dark hair. It shines so beautifully when the sun hits the braids."     I smiled at my reflection in the mirror as I remembered her voice in my head. After leaving the bathroom, I decided to go find my best friend, Jada. We had been friends forever.     Our parents having been best friends and us being born two weeks apart, we formed a special bond when we were still in diapers. There wasn't anything I wouldn't do for her, and she would do anything for me.     After my parents died, we became even closer friends. I didn't think that was possible at the time, but we had become closer than any friends or sisters I had ever known. I searched the pack house for about fifteen minutes before I gave up and headed back to my room.     Since we were under the age of fourteen, we hadn't shifted yet, so Jada couldn't mind link. However, for some odd reason, I could mind link with any member of the Forest Pack.     As soon as I got close to my room, I was enveloped by her familiar scent of honeysuckle and almonds. I sprinted the rest of the way to my room and burst through the door, as she was exiting my bathroom.     Jada jumped in surprise, before she grabbed my hand and started pulling me out of my room. "Come with me, I have a surprise for you," Jada babbled with excitement.     I willingly went with her as she pulled me out of the pack house and into the woods. We walked in a comfortable silence until we reached the familiar meadow of wildflowers we had always loved to visit.     Next, Jada led me to our favorite spot in the corner of the field, under the huge weeping willow tree. It was my favorite tree on our pack's territory. The way it's leaves whipped around in the gusts of wind was so magical to me.     As soon as I stepped between those hanging leaves, I closed my eyes as it surrounded me in a blanket of serenity. When I opened my eyes, I glanced around and saw Jada on a blanket. She was kneeling over several bowls that she had spread out, and I noticed right away, there was two little note pads and some pens.     After I walked over to Jada and sat down, she handed me one of the notebooks and a pen before she grabbed the other notebook and flipped it open. A second later, she exclaimed, "We are going to play a game that you have talked about playing for years."     I stared at her with utter confusion evident on my face about what game she could be referring to. After I furrowed my eyebrows, I warily asked, "What game?"     Jada gave me her usual devious smirk before she explained, "First, we are going to create a love poem to chant. Next, we are both going to write down seven traits that we want to see in our mates. While we put one of each flower petal into our own bowl, we will chant the poem together. Next, we will take turns throwing a flower petal into the wind while we say each trait aloud."     I couldn't help but giggle at her silliness. She must have thought I was still sad from yesterday. It was sweet of her to try cheering me up like that, knowing it would never work. I decided to indulge Jada and gave her a hug, as I enthusiastically chirped, "Lets do this!"     We decided to make our list of the seven traits before working on the poem. Of course, we kept the traits to ourselves for the moment.     Next we took turns writing a short poem. Jada insisted I write the first line of the poem, but I wasn't sure how to start, so I went with: Bless unto thee a faithful mate The one to capture my heart The one to stand by my side My true other part Bless unto thee a loving mate The one to protect me The one to bring me joy My true love to be.     When we finished writing the poem, we took a few seconds memorizing the lines. A minute or so later, Jada shot an excited glance at me and nodded her head, as she handed me a bowl. I nodded back to her, then she counted down from three using her fingers.     As soon as she dropped the last finger, we started chanting the poem together, as we meticulously placed the flower petals into our bowls. After chanting the poem three times in a row, we walked to the edge of the willow tree leaves. With a little trepidation, we both pulled back on the leaves just a little. Instantly, we could feel the wind blowing stronger. Jada smiled at me, while silently urging me to continue. Again, she insisted I go first.     I took a deep breath, before I threw my first flower petal into the wind and murmured, "sea foam green eyes," as the wind carry the petal up higher into the sky.     Jada quickly followed suit, Mimicking my previous actions, she threw a flower petal into the wind and simply said, "hazel eyes."     We continued until we finished each flower petal: Andrea: shoulder-length dark blonde hair Jada: stylish red hair Andrea: a pack doctor Jada: a great warrior Andrea: favorite color green Jada: favorite color blue Andrea: not hairy Jada: not bald Andrea: wants two pups Jada: wants an army of pups Andrea: puts others needs first Jada: puts my needs first.     Once the last flower petals flew up into the sky where we could no longer see them, we chanted the poem three more times. As soon as the last word left our mouths, we hugged each other in delight and squealed with happiness. Despite knowing, it wasn't real and nothing would come from it, we still enjoyed the silly game.     After a second or two, an energized breeze whipped through the leaves of the willow tree. Right away, we stopped squealing and looked around in surprise.     To our surprise, all the flower petals whip around us before they separated into two different groups. One group circled around me a few times, while the other group did the same to Jada, then they whipped back up into the sky. One group flew with the wind in one direction, while the other flew in a totally different direction.     To say we were both stunned into complete silence would be an understatement. We stood there in awe, staring up at the sky until we heard my brother calling in the distance, "Andrea! Jada! It's time to come back to the pack house. Dinner is ready!"     We both glanced at each other, feeling astonished by how much time had passed. It felt like we had recently got here. With our arms linked together, we headed back to the pack house, while excitedly talking about what we had just experienced, and if it could mean anything.     It was the second time I had experienced something crazy, with the first time being when the light bulbs exploded from my screams, the day my parents died. I couldn't help but to wonder if there was more to those occurrences, but unless anything else out of the ordinary happened, I saw no point in thinking too much into it. James     I was in the game room playing video games with my buddies when the wind suddenly whipped through the open window, bringing a few random flower petals in with it. We all watched as the flower petals swirled around me a few times. A few seconds later, they slowly dropped to different places around the room.     I felt compelled to see the flower petals closer, so I jumped to my feet and walked to the first one. It was a pretty, pink flower petal with a small yellow spot in the middle of it.     Filled with curiosity, I put the petal up to my nose and inhaled the scent. Unexpectedly, I was overwhelmed by the scent of lilacs mixed with kiwi.     In the back of my mind, I could see a girl with beautiful dark hair in a long French braid. She had the most captivating bright blue eyes with the thickest eyelashes. She was wearing a beautiful light pink sundress, and she had the prettiest smile I had ever seen.     I didn't realize I was in a complete daze until my friend snapped his fingers to get my attention and asked, "Dude, what the hell just happened?"     At a complete loss for words, I gave a dumbfounded reply, "I don't know, but I think these flower petals were touched by my future mate. I know I am not old enough to find her yet, but when I touched and smelled the flower petal, I saw the most beautiful girl in my mind. Oh! She smells like lilacs and kiwi."     I sheepishly smiled and scratched the back of my head, while my buddies stared at me like I must have lost my mind. I couldn't blame them for being confused, since I was equally confused by this turn of events.
