Chapter 14: The Visitor
The nurse checked the room twice before turning back to us, her expression apologetic. "She's gone," she said. "Discharged an hour ago."
"That's impossible," Adrian said. "We confirmed her admission this morning."
"I'm sorry, sir. The paperwork's already processed."
Victor stepped forward, his voice low and controlled. "Discharged by whom?"
"She signed herself out," the nurse said, glancing between us nervously. "Before she left, she asked me to give this to you." She held out a sealed envelope. "She said you'd know who it was for."
Adrian took it without a word, breaking the seal right there in the hallway. He unfolded a single sheet of paper, and I watched his face drain of color as he read it.
