Chapter 29: The Missing Witness
Victor set his phone down slowly, the room still holding its breath from the words he'd just spoken.
"What do you mean disappeared?" Adrian asked. "Disappeared how?"
"Gabriel went to pick her up," Victor said. "She'd agreed to meet Amelia this afternoon. When he got to the house, the front door was standing open."
"And?" Amelia's voice had gone tight.
"The house had been searched," Victor continued. "Nothing valuable was taken. No jewelry, no cash, nothing anyone would normally steal. Just documents. Old photographs. And Eleanor herself."
"Gone," Adrian said quietly.
"Not dead," Victor clarified. "Gone. There's a difference, and right now it's the only thing keeping Gabriel from falling apart."
