"Ella?" Luna Vel gasped, a confused look on her face, as soon as she opened the door. Ella nodded in acknowledgement and walked past her into the sitting room.
Vel closed the door briskly. Ella could hear her footfalls coming like a machine gun.
"You're supposed to have left early... as planned." She called, and Ella turned around. "But that aside..."
Now, all she wanted off her mind was whether all went well where Ella had gone. Not whether she's hurt or not. That didn't seem to matter to her.
Ella pursed her lips and raised her head to look at the wolfa in front of her, her emotions jumbled. What if Pierce hadn't been a little considerate, or say she couldn't convince him to bargain. Then her virginity would have been taken just like that.
She shot Vel a hard glare. Determining to talk to her using Victoria's face, she'd not remove the mask yet.
"I call you Mom, even if you're not my biological mother. I've always respected you. But why can't I seem to hold as much value as my sister holds in your eyes?"
"Ella, that's not a way to talk to a wolfa who has always seen you as her own daughter too. If we hadn't adopted you, you would have just died an infant, if not a starved beggar." Victoria appeared, taking a jab at Ella as she descended the stairs.
"After all, you are now the daughter of the great Alpha Morrissey, who's my father, by the way. What dear? You want all the benefits and not a little input?"
"Oh, I see he's not my father too, huh? Victoria, you were the one that contrived Alpha demanded, before mother and father decided to rather use me because you're not a virgin. Guess I'm expendable, ain't I?"
The Luna frowned at this but she came closer to pat Ella's shoulder. Ella shrugged her off, and faced Victoria again.
"I mean, haven't you been daydreaming about this Alpha since father brought back the news of his interest in you? You're even ready to ditch your newly found mate. And now you are spewing nonsense?"
Victoria shook with morbid laughter as she stood on the lowest stair case now, her fingers wrapping around the ball end of the stair railing.
"I'm not a virgin you say? You really wanna know why I didn't go last night? Well..." She drawled, stepping down. "I knew what the arrangement was. Dad said it's probably to humiliate us. They'd be sending the dirtiest of their warriors. And it will be a nightmare for me, Ella, to be broken by an ordinary wolf, even on warrior standard."
"Victoria!" The Luna warned but Ella had heard all she had to. She first clicked her temple to unattach the wig she wore, then clicked the sealing button on her neck, removed the entire mask and dropped the stuff on the floor between her and Victoria without another word.
"Don't mind your sister, Ella. I hope you left before anyone could see your face though?" The old pretentious Luna asked her.
Ella nodded grimly, not giving much mind to her silly question, she's probably asking if she'd taken off her Victoria mask there too.
Her world had been close to crumbling some moments ago, but now learning why her family had deferred to her second hand, she didn't know what to feel anymore.
She'd thought that she had had to replace Victoria because Victoria's no more a virgin, and those people had asked for one, but it turned out that they'd rather just sacrifice her for their daughter's joy.
Now, they expected Victoria would be the one to marry that Alpha while Ella was the one who should've gotten a broken hymen. Fortunately for her, that didn't happen since Pierce had had mercy on her, but then he'd only seen Victoria's face not hers. She felt a little bad mulling over this.
They'd told her to flee the place early to avoid blunders, but she'd woken up late, unintentionally. Now she berated herself for not taking the mask off and spoiling everything.
Victoria folded her arms around her chest and smiled coyly, "Of course, if it were him, how could I not have willingly go? It's simply not my gorgeous Pierce. You're disappointed too right? You must have been having crazy ideas until you we're told it won't be him."
"What crazy ideas?"
"Like, you know, you're damn eager to be touched by your future brother-in-law?" She chuckled loudly taking a seat opposite the Luna.
"Future brother-in-law?" Ella snickered, tempted to tell her she's just daydreaming and Pierce would never marry her. Although she doubted it, that alpha seemed to have been just a wolf after looks. And lips. Victoria's lips were plump while hers were kind of not so impressive unless she pouted.
"Yo, wasn't it quite intense rocking such a man? And to think you always behaved like you're some decent piece of s**t—just look at you. In the end..." She shook her head.
"Shut your mouth Vic!" Her mom reprimanded her. But it's a little too late, Ella had heard it all.
She weighed Victoria 's words in her heart. She'd felt disgusted when she was asked to do such a thing. If the Luna had kept on forcefully begging, and Morrissey even compelling her so, how could she not have agreed? These actions of theirs after what had been done disgusted her even more.
Two packs were about to clash, and she's the lamb given up for sacrifice.
"Why are you glaring? You've eaten and drunk in my house for so long, what's wrong with helping out with a little use of your body?" Victoria genuflected disgustingly and hissed.
Ella clenched her fist so tightly her nails were eating into her palm, she couldn't feel the pain.
Their mother, the Luna glanced at Victoria and remarked, "That's enough from you. Ella just helped you. Even if you're stupid and can't find the need to thank her, you shouldn't treat her so badly. Ella, please pay your sister no mind." She stood up and walked up to Ella to take her hands.
"Mm mm," Ella rejected. "I'm going upstairs."
"I'll have someone make frai soup for you. Come down later for something nourishing." She called after her.
"Mom, why are you being so nice to her, she's not my sister anyway."
"Shut up, Vic."
Ella could still hear them bantering.
She slammed and locked her door. She was adopted by them when she's still just an infant, or so they claimed. She had always been grateful and did nothing to warrant their treating her so poorly.
While growing up, Victoria had fallen sickly and frail.
Afraid that Ella would take her place in her parents heart, she'd become hostile and unloving towards her.
Ella bore it all through high school for the sake of their parents, nonetheless, she refused to attend the same college as her. Which was why instead of the Alpha-managed college in the centre of town, she chose the private one, Rudol's College. Owned by Morrissey's half adversary.
Their mother had convinced her the previous day about Victoria not being a virgin and if revealed would make the Citeclaws refuse to help.
She never thought their contrivance was so massive the only reason they made her replace Victoria was because the spoilt brat wouldn't be touched by a common wolf. Striking a rather finite point that Ella was not and never going to be their daughter.
"What was that?" She murmured and rolled her eyes. She's clearly not.
She wondered why Pierce had lied about who would come though. However, whatever reason, she decided it's not her indaba anymore.
Yet, she'd felt something last night too. Something apart from being violated against her will. It was mild, but again, now that she's back to her senses, and with all the treatment from her supposed family, all she just wanted to do was to not give a damn about anything else and disappear from here.
In the afternoon, around one o'clock, Ella finally came out of her bedroom after calling her best friend Nina, taking her bath, and throwing up multiple times in the toilet.
Her stomach felt empty, so she's going to have something in the kitchen now, when her keen ears picked a ruckus from outside. A cacophony of running feet, and door opening and shutting.
Something's wasn't right.
She skipped down a few staircases, and stopped behind a bend in the flight.
Alpha Morrissey was home. His eyes red with rage, his facial muscles bulging. He wrung his tie out of its collar and threw it down.
Maybe he'd found out what actually happened?
"Or maybe what didn't happen?" Ella whispered as she suddenly became thirsty and her heart seemed not to be able to wait for the man's explosion before its implosion.
Had Pierce deceived her? Did he refuse to help Morrissey because of what he didn't get to do with her?
