Chapter: 4 Learning more

As they chatted, Salome asked Jeremiah about his past relationships. She was curious to know if he had been in any serious relationships before. Jeremiah hesitated for a moment before responding. "There was someone," he said. Her name is Adaeze. We were close, but we're not together anymore." Salome's curiosity was piqued. "Oh?" she said. "What happened?" Jeremiah's tone became guarded, and Salome could sense that he didn't want to talk about it. "We just drifted apart, I guess," he said. "We still exchange greetings when we see each other, but that's about it." Salome nodded, even though Jeremiah couldn't see her. She respected his boundaries and didn't push him to reveal more than he was comfortable sharing. "It's okay," she said. "You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to." Jeremiah's tone softened. "Thanks, Salome. I appreciate that." Salome smiled, feeling a sense of understanding between them. She knew that Jeremiah had a past, and she was willing to accept him for who he was. As they continued talking, Salome couldn't help but wonder what had happened between Jeremiah and Adaeze. But she didn't press the issue, knowing that Jeremiah would share more when he was ready. As they continued chatting, Jeremiah suddenly felt a bit uncomfortable. He realized that Salome had asked him about his past relationship with Adaeze, and he didn't want to reveal too much. He tried to steer the conversation in a different direction. "Hey, Salome, can we talk about something else?" Jeremiah asked, attempting to sound casual. "How was your week, aside from today?" But Salome seemed to have moved on from the topic of Adaeze, and she didn't seem interested in prying further. "Oh, my week was fine, thanks for asking," she said. "I had a lot of schoolwork to catch up on, but I managed to get it done." Jeremiah breathed a sigh of relief, grateful that Salome wasn't pushing him to reveal more about his past. He was happy to talk about something else, and he asked Salome about her schoolwork and her interests. As they chatted, Jeremiah felt a sense of comfort and ease with Salome. He appreciated her understanding and her willingness to respect his boundaries. He realized that he felt more and more comfortable around her, and he couldn't help but wonder if this was the start of something special. Salome, too, felt a sense of connection with Jeremiah. She enjoyed talking to him, and she appreciated his kindness and his sense of humor. As they wrapped up their conversation, Salome smiled, feeling happy and content. "I'm glad we talked, Jeremiah," she said. "I'll talk to you tomorrow, okay?" Jeremiah's heart skipped a beat. "I'd like that," he said. "Goodnight, Salome." "Goodnight, Jeremiah," Salome replied, her voice soft and gentle. As they said their goodbyes, Jeremiah couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. He looked forward to talking to Salome again, and he wondered what the future held for them. Jeremiah walked into the café, spotting his friend Michael sitting at a table by the window. They had been friends since college, and Michael was one of the few people who knew Jeremiah inside and out. As Jeremiah sat down, Michael looked up from his phone and grinned. "Hey, man," he said. "What's up?" Jeremiah ordered a coffee and sat back in his chair. "Not much," he said. "Just enjoying the day." Michael raised an eyebrow. "I've noticed you've been spending a lot of time with someone lately," he said. "Salome, right?" Jeremiah's cheeks flushed slightly. "How did you know?" he asked. Michael chuckled. "I've seen you two together a few times," he said. "You seem pretty into her." What's going on?" Jeremiah hesitated, unsure of how much to share. But Michael was his closest friend, and he knew he could trust him. "There's not much to say," Jeremiah said. "We've just been hanging out, talking, and getting to know each other." Michael leaned forward, his eyes sparkling with interest. "I think there's more to it than that," he said. "You seem really happy when you're around her." "I'm glad to see you smiling again, man." Jeremiah smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards his friend. "Thanks, Michael," he said. "I'm happy." Salome is amazing." Michael nodded, a knowing look on his face. "I'll have to meet her sometime," he said. "I'm sure she's great if she makes you happy." Jeremiah laughed. "I'll arrange something," he said. "But for now, let's just keep this between us, okay?" Michael grinned. "My lips are sealed," he said. "But I'm rooting for you two." You deserve happiness, Jeremiah."
