I'm not at a loss.
I don't immediately wake up when the hubbub begins since I had such a restless night of dreams.
A loud horn is immediately followed by a bell, followed by a steady pounding. When I open my eyes, the corridor is bustling with activity, confirming that I am not dreaming.
As I make my way to the stairs, Shawn rushes past me and commands me to stay inside. I feel a wave of worry, but as I glance out the front window and see what's happening, anger fully overpowers fear.
I go back to my bedroom, get dressed in a sweater and shorts, and tell Rachel to follow Shawn's advice to "stay inside."
She says, her voice sluggish from sleep, "What's going on?"
Bill and Mom are out there. Remain put. I will order them to go.
