Chapter 2 Gregg

686 Words
Gregg wasn’t in the mood, but he made a deal, and Arthur had a way of making things sound slightly better than they really were. Arthur would sell him 60,000 in Whitmore stock if he hired his daughter’s college roommate as a personal assistant. Gregg thought it would be easy enough, since the last assistant he had hired quit after three days. It wasn’t his fault she couldn’t read and comprehend how to condense things into a report. It wasn’t like he was asking her to run a merger. That had been two years ago, and Greg had never looked for a replacement. He actually enjoyed being left alone, and the receptionist, Denice, could do the menial things like run reports and manage a calendar. He had purposely hired her because she was in her mid 40s and married to the love of her life. She left him alone and allowed him to work instead of trying to sleep with him while on the clock. It was nice. Gregg finally looked up from his computer and instantly felt a dread in the pit of his stomach as he made eye contact with the young woman standing in the doorway of his office. She had submitted her resume last week and Gregg had done some research. On paper, she looked like a very hirable candidate. She was well-educated and came from a school in nowhere Alabama. She had a great ACT and her GPA out of college was sitting at a 4.0. For all intents and purposes, she shouldn’t have had to call on Arthur to get her a job. So why? He hoped she wasn’t dumb. He had been sent so many women who had the qualifications, but came to work looking for a sugar daddy instead of working for a paycheck. He had to fire a few of those women himself. “Ms. Edwards, please sit down.” Gregg stood up and motioned for her to sit across from his desk. As she walked over to the chair, Gregg noticed that her smile looked a little strained. “Thank you, Mr. Hale, and thank you for seeing me today.” “It is my pleasure, after Arthur told me about you, and you submitted your resume, I would have been a fool not to interview you. Please tell me what made you pick G.H.F.” “Well Mr. Hale, your firm is the top producing financial firm in the country. I want to work for the best so I can grow and become the best.” Good answer, a little kiss-assy, but good answer, damn. Gregg smiled, “I see, and what do you plan on doing here, if you were hired?” “Well sir, I would like to eventually move up in the company into more of an account management role.” “I see.” Gregg placed his hands flat on his desk, “What makes you think you are the right fit for us?” “I have been a hard worker and a quick learner all my life.” Damn, why is she good at this? “Alright, we will see. You start tomorrow morning. Please see HR on the eighth floor. I will send down the information, and they will get you set up. I expect you here at 8.” Her face lit up and Gregg internally rolled his eyes. Arthur would owe him quite a few drinks after that. “Thank you, Mr. Hale, I look forward to working with you.” Misty stood up and reached to shake his hand. OK, she was pretty, but that didn’t mean he needed to notice. He just needed to give her a few weeks, then she would quit, or he could fire her as soon as the deal with Arther was done. She almost skipped out of his office. She thought she was going to get somewhere here, but she would understand soon enough that a nice ass wouldn’t get her anywhere with him. He also needed to remember to not look at her ass while she was there.
