Gregg sat at his desk staring at his computer, a cup of coffee in his hand. He had not slept the night before, but that was his normal. What was not normal was what kept him up. Usually it was a merger or some sort of planning that needed his undivided attention, but last night it was a woman fresh out of school, with a degree in financial development and an ass that wouldn’t quit.
A small knock at the door was answered with a rough “Enter” and there she was. Today she had worn a pair of slacks that gripped her thighs like a second skin and a blouse that pulled just a touch at her breast. Stop Gregg, you don’t need to entertain the idea of her body, she will be throwing it at you soon enough, and you can’t take the bait.
“Good morning Mr. Hale, Denice said you were already in and handed me a stack of messages that came in for you. I have already sorted them by priority as well as looked over your schedule. I also saw that there was a meeting about the Grissom account that you had scheduled for this morning. I took the liberty of pulling the report on its growth projections and emailed it to you.” With each task she listed, she placed neatly written notes and organized file folders on his desk.
“Thank you Ms. Edwards, is your desk to your liking?”
He had the small office behind the reception desk cleared out so she could have space to work and not be in his way during the day.
“Yes sir, it is lovely, and thank you for the coffee and donuts this morning. It was very kind.”
Denice, that woman was always making him look good even when he didn’t want to.
Gregg gave a tight smile, “Of course.” he would be speaking to Denice later.
“Is there anything else sir?”
“Yes, have Denice show you around, and have her go over the full schedule with you. I have emailed you with a list of tasks I need done today.”
That list was some of the most mundane things he could think of. Call for a reservation for tomorrow evening at a restaurant, call the office of an investor and set up a meeting, and email a list of clients that have interests in overseas holdings, just to name a few.
“Yes sir.” was her response. She turned and had almost made it to the door.
“Oh, and order my lunch. Denice will tell you what to get.”
She nodded and he went back to work. He hadn’t gotten halfway through reading another email before his phone rang.
“Hale” he answered without looking at the phone screen. That was a mistake.
