“You bastard.” Gregg recognized the voice immediately.
His brother Chris always had a way of making a shitty day worse.
“What?”
“You haven’t come to see us in weeks, and then I find out you were at the club making deals. I am heartbroken. I thought you were just becoming a hermit, but it turns out, you can make time for that, just not us.”
Gregg loved Chris, but he loved messing with him more.
“Well, you know little brother, the guys at the club, don’t get on my nerves nearly as much as you do, especially with all the kissing and touching going on at your place. How is my poor sister-in-law doing? If she is having to deal with you, it's probably not great.”
“I will have you know, she is doing better than ever. She is positively glowing.”
“That is what you said the last time she was carrying one of my precious nieces and nephews and you were right. And how are the kids?”
Gregg loved his niece and nephew and spoiled them any chance he got. He tried to come over once a week just to catch up and play with the kids, but the last month or so he had been on trips out of the country, and had missed his time with them.
“Ask them yourself.”
“Uncle Gregg!!!!!” He heard a little girl squeal through the phone.
Melly, who was 5, and Carson, who was 4, giggled as Gregg growled through the phone, “What, who is that? I think there are a couple of goofy kids playing games with me. My precious niece and nephew would only call me by my real name.”
“Hi the best Uncle Gregg in the world!” Carson shouted.
Gregg could feel his brother’s eyes roll over the phone. “OK, you two, go play. Daddy needs to tell Uncle Gregg that he is getting old, and his hair is going gray.”
“No worse than yours.”
“Don’t lie, or I will unleash them in your office with paint and glitter.”
“Oh you wouldn’t dare.”
“Try me big brother.”
“OK, I surrender.” Gregg laughed as he heard the kids screaming as they ran away.
“Good, so really, when are you free again? We all miss you, and Melody is asking about you. She wants you to come over and help her convince me to go back to work and not hover over her all the time.”
“I agree with her, but I don’t know. I am about to start on the second quarter market analysis and that is a little time-consuming. I am also looking at a few deals in London, and I still have to wrap up the Australia deal, but I promise I will come see the kids before they all graduate medical school.”
Gregg heard Chris scoff, “Well you better big brother, it would be nice to see you like we did before.”
Gregg, “Smiled, soon, I will be over soon.”
He hung up the phone, and went back to work.
