بعد رحيل حسام الدراماتيكي من الصيدلية، استقر صمت شديد وخانق فوق الغرفة. استمر المطر في الخارج في التساقط على زجاج واجهة المتجر، مما يعكس العاصفة النفسية الفوضوية التي أشعلتها بنجاح في ذهن زوجي. وقفت خلف المنضدة، أصابعي تتبع السطح البارد للهاتف السري، والشعور موجة مطلقة من النصر. كان الخوف الذي شهدته في عينيه حقيقة نقية وغير مغشوشة ؛ لم يعد المجرم المتعجرف والمحسوب الذي يعمل خلف الحشود - كان رجلًا مكسورًا يبحث عن الأشباح.

I unlocked the secret phone once more to deliver the final psychological blow for the night. My fingers moved swiftly across the screen as I typed a message that would dismantle what little sanity he had left: (The ports are being watched, and the warehouses are no longer yours to command, Houssam. The files on your laptop have already found a new home. Every document, every transaction, every dirty deal is now recorded cash cash. Sleep well tonight, if you can, because the shadow is standing right outside your bedroom door).

I pressed send, watching the message deliver instantly into his paranoid world. I knew exactly what would happen next; he would check his security cameras, he would lock his doors twice, and he would stare into every mirror wondering if Raghad was staring back. The game was operating entirely on my terms now, and his dark empire was cracking from within. I put the phone away, packed my bag, and walked out into the Damascus rain, feeling more powerful and towering than ever before.
