26. Breakfast

Knox's P.O.V My mate walked out of the closet, wearing the beautiful blue dress, her hair in two loose braids. She looked stunning, making my heart do backflips in my chest. Kane, just like me, was completely speechless and he hadn't shut up ever since my sixteenth birthday. She had her hands in front of her, hey eyes glued to the floor. I could hear her own heart pounding and I was sure she could hear mine. "You-" I tried, my throat going dry. I took deep breath after deep breath, but no matter how much air I inhaled, it didn't seem to reach my lungs. "Wou-would you like me to-to change?" She asked, her voice timid as she too tried to steady the rhythm of her heart, although not for the same reason. I was in front of her in seconds, making her take a couple of steps backwards. I knew I shouldn't, but I stopped her from walking further away, placing one hand on her waist. Sparks immediately ignited from our touch, even though the fabric was in the way. "No." I finally managed to say. "You just left me speechless!" She looked up at me, her eyes meeting mine as they filled with tears. "You're the most beautiful girl I've ever laid eyes on, my love!" I murmured as my thumb ran across her eyes, making sure no tears spill. She shook her head, her cheeks heating up and her heartbeat becoming even faster. "I-I haven't worn a dress in a while." She admitted shyly. "I'll make sure to buy you every dress available, from now on!" I promised, kissing her knuckles before gently letting her hand rest next to her again. "Breakfast?" I asked after a silence stretched between us. These emotions were new to both of us, they took time and effort to understand, let alone fully enjoy. We both had our fears, but we were finally together, ready to explore them together. She nodded, her stomach grumbling again. I stifled my laughter this time, deciding I'll keep the opportunity to tease her with it later. "Can I?" I asked as I extended my hand towards her. Her eyes hovered across my hand, observing if it was actually safe to hold. Finally, she placed her much smaller hand in mine without hesitation. A smile stretched over both our lips as we quietly walked hand in hand to the kitchen, enjoying the warmth and sparks our clasped hands brought us. The kitchen was completely empty, apart from two Omega she-wolves, which were finishing cleaning up. They bowed as they felt me enter the room, eyeing my mate suspiciously. She noticed the way they looked at her, moving to hide behind me. I shielded her away, but before I could warn them to back off, the older one of the two stepped forward with another bow. "Alpha, can I help you with something? Perhaps you need me to show the new she-wolf to her duties?" She asked, trying to see my mate from behind me. It shouldn't have bothered me as much as it did, Dali didn't carry my mark yet so the Omega had no idea who she really was, but it did. It did bother me, a lot. When anyone belittled or mistreated my mate, even if it was her that did it, I saw red. This time, was no exception. I was about to explode, but my growl got stiffened by my mate's hand on my mine. I immediately stopped what I was doing and turned around to look at her. "It's-it's ok." She smiled at me. "She doesn't k-know." And just like that, all anger died down. All it took were two sentences and one touch and I gained control. Dali already had me wrapped around her finger and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. The Omega in front of us was shaking, her eyes full of fear. Her aura radiated it, in fact, every fiber in her body radiated it. She was ready to run as far away as she could. The younger-looking one behind us was pretending to sweep the floors, but her eyes and ears were focused entirely on the scene in front of her, her own aura also radiating fear. "I-I'm the A-Alpha's mate." Dali told the she-wolf, shocking me. Pride swelled in my chest at the thought of what an amazing Luna she was already, speaking up for herself after so many years of it being forbidden. "And as such, she deserves to be treated with respect!" I add, kissing the top of her head and whispering an 'I'm proud of you!" In her ear, making her blush yet again. "I'm so sorry for the disrespect, Luna, I didn't know, I swear!" The Omega's voice quivered as she apologised. I stared between the two, deciding to let my mate handle this since she showed interest in speaking up for herself. "It's ok," Dali replied with a smile. "That's our mate!" Kane said, pride oozing off of him. "Not even a thought of hurting the she-wolf!" He added. "That's our mate!" I repeated, letting the words sink in. Seeing that no more words would be shared between the two, I turn back to the she-wolf. "Is there anything left from breakfast?" My mate practically jumps at the mention of food, making it hard to stifle my laughter at how adorable she was. "My apologies, Alpha, Luna, but all food has been eaten." She said. "But I could make you something right away if you wish?" I nodded, but felt a hand on my bicep again, drawing my attention. "Can I make you some-something?" Dali asked, her cheeks once again tinted pink. I hesitated. There were two Omegas here, whose job was exactly that, she didn't have to do anything! I never wanted her to feel like she was responsible for chores again. That part of her life was over. From now on, she would be treated like the queen she was, not only by me, but by everyone that wished to remain amongst the living. "I love to c-cook!" She explained as she stared at the kitchen in awe. "Man, wish she'd look at us the way she stares at this darn room!" Kane grumbled. "Besides," my mate added as she turned her attention back to me. "This kit-kitchen is beautiful!" I chuckled at her, giving in, and dismissing the Omegas. The younger one put the broom away and they both bowed before scurrying out of the room. We watched as the door closed with a small thud before I kissed the top of Dali's head once more. "Anything you want, darling! Her eyes lit up with joy and in one swift moment, she raised herself on her tiptoes and pecked my cheek before running into the pantry. My heart exploded as I felt the small peck over and over again. My cheek burned, pleasant sparks and tingles dancing on the spot. I heard her giggle quietly to herself as I traced my cheek with the tip of my fingers. The things she made me feel with just one peck were unreal, nothing I've ever experienced even coming close to this. I didn't know how much time had passed of me simply staring into the distance, trying to calm my racing heart, before the pantry's door got pushed open and my mate walked out, her hands full of products. "Help?" I asked, c*****g an eyebrow at her. "Yup! S-sit over there and don't mess with my-my food!" She demanded, pointing to the island and its black stools, where I was supposed to sit, per my Luna's request. "Yes, ma'am!" I laughed as I sat down, watching her every move. She went into the pantry a few more times before finally switching the light off and closing the door. She turned to look at me, inspecting if I was disobeying her request, a satisfied smile on her lips as she sees me sitting on the stool, arms up in surrender. "I-I just told you to sit, not become a s-statue!" She laughed, the sound echoing in my ears, making my throat go dry again. I froze, the only thing indicating I was still alive, the twinkling in my eyes as her laughter's melody replayed over and over again in my head. I placed my elbows on the island, resting my head in my hands as I watched her work her magic. "I didn't know what you l-liked so I grabbed a fe-few things." She explained, her back now turned to me. "Well, you have a whole lifetime to find out. Although I'd probably eat anything made by you!" After that, it became quiet, the only sounds coming from my mate as she moved around the kitchen, more confident than I had ever seen her be. I was fascinated by her, by the way she took care of the products, and turned them into a five-star meal, by the way she carried herself with ease, knowing exactly what she was doing. She handled the products the same way a baby would handle its rattle. Carried away in thoughts, I didn't notice when she had come close until her scent drowned me in its comfort. She set a plate in front of me, instructing me to close my eyes until I heard a second plate be set next to me and Dali plopping herself on the stool next to mine. "Open!" She squealed excitedly. Upon opening my eyes, I saw why she was so proud of her work. She had made the most amazing scrambled eggs I had ever seen - a perfect shade of gold, perfectly fried bacon, and a strawberry oatmeal parfait. Unlike the rest of the food, which was neatly placed on a plate, the parfait looked like it was taken out of a magazine. She had placed it in a crystal cup, the strawberries making the bottom layer, followed by the oats, yogurt, and topped with blackberries, more strawberries, and a mint leaf. Next to it, in between us, was one more plate with what appeared to be delicious, perfectly golden banana pancakes with a jar of Nutella. "Wow!" I exclaimed. "You like it?" She asked with a timid smile as she awaited my answer. "I love it! See, I know I said you didn't have to cook everyday, but I don't know how I would be able to eat anyone else's food again!" I threw my arms dramatically in the air, making her giggle. "Thank you, my love!" I pecked her cheek, the same way she had done with mine before digging into the food. She, however, didn't dig in no matter how much I waited for her to. I dropped my fork on the table, turning around to face her. "What's wrong?" "I don't k-know if I'm allowed to eat t-this." She mumbled. "I t-trust you, but I-I'm finally hap-py and don't want it to-to end." I nodded, grabbed her fork, and fed her a bite of the eggs. She chewed, her gaze not leaving mine. "This pack is just as much yours as it is mine, everything else in it too. Besides, happiness is the only thing you'll be feeling from now on!" After that, the clicking of forks, both of ours, this time, filled the air as we ate. I stuffed my mouth with food like a pig, forgetting to chew from time to time. I wasn't lying when I said I wouldn't look at breakfast the same ever again. From the eggs to the pancakes, everything was pure perfection. "By the way you're eating, I'll a-add these foods to the list of ones you like!" She told me. I nodded, but said nothing because it would be a waste of a few seconds, in which I could be stuffing my face. "Knox?" Dali called out, snapping my attention away from the food and back to her. "Can I tell you something?" "Anything," I replied, my mouth still full of the delicious breakfast. "When you don't have anything in your mouth?" She grumbled, her hands starting to tremble. I left everything, swallowing the last bites, and took her hands in mine to prevent them from shaking. "Um, th-this may sound weird, but do y-you remember me?" A/N: Hi, Treasures!
