24. Morning I

Dalia's P.O.V "Oh my god, Luna! You scared me, thank god you're awake!" Doctor Lucile breathed a sigh of relief, rambling something I couldn't waste my energy to hear. I tried to breathe, but it felt like something heavy was pinning my chest down. "T-take me to-to Knox!" I repeated, my voice becoming even quieter than it was the first time. The doctor stopped talking and looked at me as if I had grown another head. "To-to the Alpha?" She asked, the shock making her stutter. I blinked, watching her shuffle around nervously. "Luna, I can't! The Alpha forbade me from unlocking the door, remember? What if you get hurt, he won't forgive me, please! And we can't disturb him, what if he's asleep, Luna, please don't make me do this!" She pleaded, wasting time. I knew I didn't have long, I needed to be taken to my mate and I needed it to happen fast. "I-I won't d-do any-anything! P-please, I-I need h-him!" I begged her, another tear slipping from my eyes and rolling down my cheeks. She rethought my request over and over before a heavy sigh left her lips. "Ok, I'll help you." She sighed, defeated. I gave her a tiny smile before another pained cry left my lips. "Your wolf, she's hurting you, isn't she?" The doctor realised as she grabbed a blanket from the cabinets next to the medical equipment. "Y-yeah." I whimpered, trying to stay awake. "She should have shifted a long time ago, mixing it with the wolfsbane they subdued her with, she's having a hard time." The doctor thought out loud. Doctor Lucile draped the blanket over my shoulders and put my arm around her, helping me stand. She began moving slowly, walking close to objects so I could clutch them for support. I had never been in this much pain while walking, even in the Trade after I got used. My knees would buckle every couple of seconds, I could hardly take a breath and everything spun. I had no idea where we were going since I had never been in this part of the house. I lost track of time, unsure of how long we had been walking for, all I knew was I couldn't do it anymore. I slouched on her arm as she attempted to steady me, pushing me into a nearby wall so it supported my back. I panted, fire spreading through my lungs instead of air, weak cries escaping my chapped, parted lips. "Luna, the Alpha's room is close, I'll go call him!" She whispered, trying to keep her voice down so we wouldn't wake up the pack and cause unnecessary attention. I grabbed her leg, stopping her. "No!" I breathed. "I-I c-can do i-it!" I declared, making her help me get back up. She shook her head, probably annoyed with my stubbornness, but I didn't care what she thought. All I cared about right now was receiving my mate's help. I would have called him to the hospital room, but I wasn't sure if he would have come and it would have been too much to wait and get my heart broken. I needed to go to him, show him that I cared and after, if he decided he didn't want me, I would at least die having smelled his scent one last time. I blinked, darkness surrounding the corridors, making it hard to see. "This is his room." Doctor Lucile explained, her hand going up to knock, but the door opened before she could manage, Knox's shirtless body coming into view. I inhaled deeply, taking in his delicious scent, Delilah calming down slowly, the pain, along with her. "What's wrong, Lucile, what happened to my mate?" He asked, worry laced in his tone. Perhaps he still cared about me. He looked tired, I could make out the bags under his eyes even in the dark. Before the doctor could answer him, I sway in her arms, attempting to steady myself before answering. "I-I, p-please!" A new wave of tears trickle down my cheeks, sobs racking my body. "Ma-make the p-pain stop! D-do wha-whatever you-you want w-with m-me, ju-just make it s-stop!" I managed to say in between sobs. He immediately picked me up bridal style, letting my head rest on his chest, closer to him than I had ever been. "Alpha, I'm so sorry, the Luna, she pleaded with me to bring her here and I couldn't say no because she was in pain and-" the doctor rambled again, getting stopped by my mate's annoyed growl. "Of course, you're going to bring her here, she needs me! Now go, I'll take it from here!" I heard him shout, although his voice sounded distant, the ringing in my ears louder. The door shut closed, leaving me alone with my mate, who set me down on a large, soft bed. Even though it was soft, I felt uncomfortable. Once he set me down, I lost the warmth his body radiated, making me whimper. "No!" I cried, grabbing his attention, my eyes shooting open in fear of being left alone and the pain coming again. I saw him put on a shirt before the bed dipped and he sat next to me. He gently placed my head on a pillow and sat with his back pressed to one, rubbing my temples to ease the pain. "Come on, sleep. You're exhausted!" He suggested, his own voice sleepy, but he didn't lay down. "D-don't le-leave me!" I pleaded, but he only kissed my forehead, saying nothing. My heart clenched, but the pain finally fully settled, leaving only the exhaustion. My eyes drooped closed as I enjoyed the comforting feeling of my mate's hands massaging my temples. The last thing I remembered was hearing him say something to Delilah, which put her to sleep, and him draping a blanket over my body to keep me warm. *** I woke up to the sun shining brightly in my eyes, feeling relieved and well rested. In fact, I don't think I had ever been this well rested. I looked around the room, wondering how all of this was real. How I found comfort and peace in a mate I never thought I would have, but he was here, in the same bed as me and the choice was mine. The room was beautiful, like the rest of the house I had managed to explore when I searched for the kitchen. The bed was made from a walnut coloured wood with a dark blue canopy, that perfectly matched the sheets. The walls were also painted in the same dark blue, making the room too dark for my liking, although I found this one very beautiful. The dresser, opposite the bed was made from the same walnut coloured wood, tying the room together. There weren't many details, just two bedside lamps, which were grey, on each side of bedside tables, made from the same wood. Next to the dresser there were two greyish doors, which I assumed led to a bathroom and closet, and over the dresser, there was a big window, that allowed the sunlight to stream through. Once I was done exploring the room, I looked at my mate, who was sleeping peacefully besides me. He was on the edge of the bed, almost falling off with barely any space. It made me feel really bad, having taken his bed, while he slept at the edge, but I didn't want to risk waking him up so I let him be and continued gazing. His hair fell wildly around his face, bouncing around in perfect synch with the rhythm of his chest as it raised and fell. He looked beautiful, so peaceful. It felt weird, knowing he could hurt me in a second, but he chose to give me his bed and found peace with me, just like I did with him. I felt Deli stir, an uncomfortable feeling settling in the deep crevices of my mind. "I'm not mad, Deli!" I sighed as I linked her. "But I caused you a lot of pain and made fun of you!" She whimpered, ashamed. "I deprived you of freedom and a mate after you were locked up for years. It was your instincts talking. You're my other half, Deli, I don't want to lose you again!" She projected images of her wolfie smile, happiness oozing off of her in waves. "We can trust him, you know that, right?" She finally whispered, afraid of my answer. "I know," I replied with a small smile. "Dali?" Delilah called. "He didn't do anything to you last night." Dread settled within me as I recalled my words last night. I let him do whatever he wanted. I hadn't thought about it until Deli brought it up, but now I was scared. I gave him permission, but truthfully, I really didn't want him to touch me yet. I looked down at my sweatpants, but much to my surprise, they were still tied in the same knot only I knew how to make. It was a trick I figure out in the Trade so I could know if they injected me with something and took advantage of me, then I just kept doing it because any pants I wore were far too big to fit. "You were right. No pain, no removed knot, he didn't touch me." I linked her, tears welling up in my eyes for the thousandth time. I felt weak and stupid not only for doubting him, but for pushing him away and crying non stop. Knox's P.O.V I had been asleep, when I felt my beautiful mate's eyes roam around my face. I let her stare, pretending to be asleep because I didn't want her to feel embarrassed and also because I enjoyed knowing she liked what she saw. I felt her move away, deciding to finally open my eyes. "I was quite enjoying that, love!" I said In a deep, sleepy voice, making her jump. She smiled, her face crimson red with embarrassment. "I'm sorry, I didn't m-mean to wa-wake you up!" She apologised, her gaze shifted to the sheets of the bed. This time, however, she was just embarrassed, not an ounce of fear. I caressed her blushing cheeks, feeling the sparks dance beneath my fingertips. She also felt it, leaning into my touch. "I've never been woken up better in my life!" I shrugged as I retracted my hand back. Her cheeks got even redder, if it was possible. "I would have one hell of a time making her red if it's that easy!" Kane smirked in our link, making me laugh. "Asshole!" I replied teasingly. "Knox?" He called, his voice growing serious. "We really did make it!" He mumbled happily. "Yeah, yeah we did!" I smiled. "Knox?" My mate's voice snapped me out of my trance. My smile grew wider as I enjoyed hearing the way my name rolled off her tongue. "Is it stil o-ok if I s-stay?" She asked, fiddling with the sheets, avoiding looking at me. I scooted closer to her, tilting her chin with my fingers so I could stare at the soft pools of chocolatey-brown eyes. "Forever wouldn't be enough time to spend with you, my sweet mate!" I could see the relief in her eyes before the prettiest smile I had ever seen light up the room. For the first time, her smile radiated genuine, true happiness. Then, she did the thing I least expected - she melted the distance between us completely before laying her head on my chest. My breath hitched in my throat, my heart going a million miles per hour. I readjusted myself on the pillow, letting her head relax, both of us feeling the comfort of our bond. She looked up, her eyes glowing with happiness. "Thank you!" She said. "For making me see what love felt like!" My heart rate increased even more, I felt as if my heart was going to explode.
