I found myself crying in my room beside my bed. I didn't want to mate with the alpha, I didn't want to be his, I just wanted to be free. He said to meet him in his chambers at 10 p.m. It was now 8 p.m. I don't want to, I told myself before another ripple of tears came flowing down my cheeks.
He told me to go prepare myself but how do I do that? I asked myself.
Martha walked in and she saw me crying. She walked over to me and sat down, I put my head on her lap and just cried until I had no more tears left.
She picked up my chin in her gentle frail hands, kissed me on my forehead and told me to get ready.
"For what?" I asked her rather disgusted as if she was oky with the alphas idea.
"To escape" she said softly as she brought her finger infront of her lips.
I looked at her shocked and didn't know what to say.
"Look out the window" she said softly.
I did and I saw Charles in his wolf form carefully and quietly snapping the necks of the guards and dragging them into the forest.
"He is clearing a path to get you out of here" she said.
"What do I need to do?" I asked her while trying to compose myself.
"Change into something more comfortable and when the time is right, trust me and jump out your window." she said rather seriously.
"What?!" I exclaimed.
"Ssshhh, just trust me" said softly trying to get me to keep quiet.
"How will I know when the time is right?" I asked her, this time keeping my voice down.
"You'll know my dear" she said patting my hand. "It's in your blood."
"I'll go inform the alpha that you are getting ready" she said to me before she walked out the door and closed it softly.
I just stood there and couldn't move, I was trying to process everything that was just told to me.
"Hurry princess" came Charles voice through our mind link.
"Oky" I told him back as I rushed into my closet to get changed.
I put on a pair of comfortable shorts and a loose fitting shirt and I strapped on my hiking sneakers. I thought they might come in handy seemingly as we are heading through a forest.
I stood by my window, my heart pounding in my chest as I saw Charles take out more guards with absolute stealth as not to alert anybody else.
I was actually surprised that the alpha didn't feel that his men were going down. Did he really not care about them? I asked myself with wide eyes at the scene infront of me.
I looked at the clock, it was now 9:30 p.m. The time was coming closer to when the alpha wanted me to meet him in his chambers.
Something in my gut told me that it was time to jump. I climbed out my window onto the windowsill and held my chest. It seemed extremely high but I had to have faith.
I took a deep breath, closed my eyes and gave myself a push off of the windowsill...
I was silently screaming in my mind and I opened my eyes. I was dangerously close to the ground. Just before I was about to hit it... "Gotcha!" said Charles through our mind link as he grabbed me in his wolf's mouth.
He put me on his back and I wiggled myself to get as close to his body as possible so that nobody would see me through his long hair.
"Hold on tight" He said as he made a dash for the castle boundary wall.
"I could also just change into my wolf form" I told him.
"Too dangerous" He said shaking his large head. "You will be noticed too easily."
I held tight onto him as he approached the very tall wall and jumped. I sat slightly up as he jumped and felt the cool air blowing in my hair.
He landed with a loud thump on the ground, then took off into the forest as quickly as he could.
He was running a lot of zig zags, assuming to throw the trackers off our trail.
We went through a river and back again, then in the river again and back.
"The water is cold" I told him.
"Sorry my princess" He said. "Just once more I promise."
He took a flying leap off a cliff and we were lit up from the light of the moon.
I felt free at last. Safely with my mate.
Maybe too soon to celebrate, I told myself as we came crashing down into the ice cold water of the river.
Charles was struggling in the current to swim to the other side of the river and I was starting to worry that we wouldn't make it.
He used all his strength to get us accross and climbed out, not even stopping to shake himself off. He just kept running as fast as he could.
"Aaaaahhhhhhh" we heard a scream in the distance.
"It's the alpha, he knows you missing" He said. "He's trying to mind link me!"
Hearing that scream sent shivers down my spine and I laid back down trying my best to get as close to Charles as I possibly could.
"Here's to us my princess, I'm shutting the mind link down" He said urgently and sounded like he was getting out of breath.
"Why don't you rest for a while?" I asked him.
"We aren't far enough away yet" He responded back panting.
Charles ran probably for another hour straight before he started slowing down. His pace got slower and slower. I could feel his heart was in over drive and his panting grew louder. He finally came to a complete stop over by one of the trees and i climbed off of him. The tree had a huge hole inside of it and he nudged me inside with his snout. He squeezed in the hole and his legs just collapsed in from under him. He was exhausted.
He would of have been able to run for longer if he didn't exert so much energy taking down the guards.
I silently sat down beside him, put my head on his side and rubbed his fur through my fingers.
We both drifted off into sleep...
