Until my last howl

Chapter 2 - The news

I finally got to the front door of my house and I could hear my parents arguing inside. Arg as if I want to come home to this I thought to myself. "Sssshhhh, ccccooooommmeeee" I heard the whispers again which sounded extremely close. I turned around and there was nobody there. I must be coming down with something I told myself as I opened the front door and stepped inside.

My parents both looked at me with concern and anger in their expressions. "Young lady, where have you been?" said my father with a stern voice. He looks more strict thanks to the round glasses that he wears and his short brown hair with green color eyes and quite a muscular body. Not somebody I would want to mess with...

"I was at the movies and went to the arcade with Lucy and Max" I told my father while holding up the large stuffed toy. "We thought you would of come home as soon as you heard the news" said my mother. She spoke softly, also had a petite figure but a bit more taller than me. She had a mix of blonde and brown hair with sky blue eyes.

"What news?" I asked as I sat down on the couch. "I haven't heard anything".

My parents both sat down and with my father taking a deep breath, he spoke: "The alpha has invited everybody to a meeting tomorrow evening at the central square." "Why does that concern me?" I asked while rolling my eyes. "Because the alpha will be looking for a mate and we want you to look your best but we are also concerned about you." said my mother.

"No need to be concerned mom" I said in a soft tone. "I'm not looking for a mate so it's very unlikely that the alpha will chose me".

"We think that the alpha is going around and looking for a mate with a rare coat color" said my father. "I heard from Cherise that he has had many failed mates before" said my mother with tears in the corners of her eyes.

"The new alpha can be quite brutal" said my father. "He's nothing like his father who was a much better alpha".

"Again, it doesn't concern me and why would the alpha want a rare fur color?" I asked with an amused look on my face.

"Due to the prophecy" said my father after taking a deep breath again. "We can no longer hide you and protect you like we have done in the past" said my mother.

"What prophecy?" I asked with a rather concerned voice.

My father inhaled once more and spoke with great care in his voice, "there is a prophecy which says if the alpha is to mate with a rare coat color then all the powers of the forest spirit will be handed over to him".

"I'm sure there are lots of other white coats out there" I said to my father. My parents both looked at me and shook their heads.

"Well I'm not wanting a mate, so the alpha can go fly a kite" I said getting up and stormed off to my room...

Later that evening my mother called me to come and eat dinner, I slowly shuffled my feet over to the diningroom table and sat down while my mother placed the meal infront of me. It looked and smelled delicious, pork chops with potatoes, mixed vegetables and rice. The pork chops had a lovely sweet and sticky glaze over them. "My favorite!" I exclaimed as I dug in and started eating.

My parents were awfully quiet compared to usual. Are they really so concerned about the alpha taking me? I thought to myself.

Finally I spoke up and said to the both of them, "I know you guys are concerned but neither of you have to worry." "If the alpha wants me as his mate, I'll just reject him". I said with a smirk on my face.

"It's not that simple" said my mother getting up and taking the plates through to the kitchen. "I'll make it simple" I told her as I got up and started doing dishes for them.

Once I was done with dishes and cleaning up the kitchen a little bit, I headed to the bathroom to go take a much needed hot shower. I took off my clothes, threw them in the hamper and climbed in the shower. Standing under the hot water, I looked at myself in the mirror. Maybe I just mustn't show up tomorrow I said to myself as I continued to wash my hair...

I walked out of the bathroom already in my pajamas and saw my parents both standing by my bedroom door waiting for me. "We came to say good night" said my mother as she embraced me in a hug and gave me a slobby kiss on my forehead. "Good night peanut" said my father as he gave me a hug. I said good night to both of them, then walked into my room and sat on my bed looking out my window which over looked the forest. It was so misty outside and the air felt cool that was blowing in by the window. I saw the big bright full moon in the sky above and was staring at it. Looking at all the shadows on the moon and the crater marks on it. The moon was truly a mystery to me and I loved been under its glow.

I felt the urge to howl but had to contain myself as my parents don't allow howling in the house.

As I stared at the moon, I heard the whispers again. "Ssshhhh, hhhhhrrrrreeee, ccccooommm"... I looked around and at the very edge of the forest stood what looked like a lady with long white hair, a white dress, fair skin and really creepy white eyes. I got such a fright that I got goosebumps everywhere on me and shut my window quickly.

After a while I peered out of my window again once I finally caught my breath and she was gone! I must really be coming down with something I told myself while crawling under my blankets. I closed my eyes and let my mind drift off into a peaceful sleep...
