"Lola?Lola!" I could hear my uncle calling my name. His voice sounded distant as if I was stuck under water. There was a ringing in my ear and it felt as if my body had stopped functioning. I was frozen in place I could not believe what I had just heard. " What? no no way" my voice came out no more than a whisper as years rolled down my cheeks. " I'm sorry but we tried our best" the nurse said in a sad voice then walked away. She was gone just like that my best friend, my source of comfort,my world, my universe, my everything, my mom. Just a few months ago my mom discovered she had a tumor growing in her brain. The doctors said surgery at this point would be risky but she as stubborn as she was didn't listen to the doctors or me and now look what happened. I stood there in shock until I started feeling my consciousness fading."Lola, Lola!!" is the last thing I heard then everything just went black
*2 days later*
It was the day of my mother's funeral, the worst day of my life.I felt numb, my eyes were swollen and sore and I had lost my voice. As if matters couldn't get worse my father was here and I was to leave with him after the funeral service. Last I saw my father was at my grandmother's funeral 8 years ago and to think that I'll be 18 in just a few weeks. My father is basically a stranger to me and now I have to live with him under the same roof.I had planned on living with my uncle or maybe getting an apartment of my own as I didn't want to stay in a mansion full of my mother's memory but to my surprise my father had made arrangements with my family for me to go stay with him." Lolita are you ready?" an knock on the door snapped me out of my thoughts it was my aunty, I guess it was time to go. I didn't bother to answer I just took my purse and headed for the door.I stepped out of the room and my eyes fell on my devastated auntie's face. Her eyes were just as puffy as mines she also looked like she hadn't gotten any sleep in days."be strong my darling" she said me with tears rolling down her cheeks and I nodded at her then walked down the stairs and out the doors to the car
We arrived at the cemetery where the ceremony was going to take place and I couldn't hold the tears that started streaming down my face. The place was quite full but amongst all those people there was a face I I could never forget no matter how much I tried. It was him, my father. He's gaze was cold almost emotionless but he's eyes showed a glimpse of sadness when they landed on me but only for a second. I sat next to my uncle throughout the entire ceremony but I could feel my father's eyes on me from about 3 rows away. After the burial I sat on my mom's grave and cried my heart out until the my uncle instructed the guards to drag me back to the car.It was a quiet drive back home except for the sound of the pouring rain and my silent sniffles. As we approached the mansion I could see that everyone was gathered there to wish me farewell because my father couldn't wait a single day to leave.I walked out of the car not paying much attention to the rain and went where everyone was gathered. They all seemed sad and distressed but I wondered what stopped them from saying no to my father, anyways now was not the time to argue or be stubborn I just had to accept everything and move on. After about an hour or so my father's assistant came to me saying it was time to go. " I will miss you Lolita" my uncle said with a sorrowful voice."I don't want to go uncle why can't I stay with you" I asked with tears in my eyes."Madam it's time to go", and with that I hugged my uncle one last time then headed for the doors.Once all my bags were packed I stood in hesitation by the door of the car contemplating on what was gonna happen now.I don't know what it was but there had always been something about my father that terrified me. Maybe it was his cold grey eyes or his threatening and murderous demure."Get in Lolita" a deep voice came from the car snapping me out of my thoughts. I quickly opened the door and entered the car."I understand what you must be going through right now Lolita but you are not alone in this world, you still have me your father and I will take care of you. Okay?" "yes" I whispered and he nodded
The way to the airport was short and quiet. As we arrived there we got out of the car and we're escorted to the private plane by I don't even know how many guards."Good evening madam my name is Sofia and I will be ur attendant for the rest of the trip. If you need anything at all don't hesitate to ask."A blond lady who looked around 40 years of age said to me as I boarded the plane."Thank you Sofia but I'm alright." I took my seat and my father sat opposite me busy in his phone as always. "I'm sure you will miss your family and friends Lolita" he said trying to start an unwanted conversation." My family, yeah I will" I said bitterly. He's eyes finally came off his phone giving me a confused look " what about your friends" "I don't really have friends" "oh" he said and then went back to glaring at his screen. "yeah" I whispered and lay the back of my head on my seat and closed my eyes hoping to doze of because who knows how long a flight from Australia to New York takes
