Chapter 5 I was afraid to open my eyes. If I did, I might discover that I was in my own room. Alone. I couldn’t stand the thought of waking up to discover Jake wasn’t really with me, and so I clung to sleep for as long as I could. Everything that happened between us had the quality of a dream. One of those really painful dreams where everything is right and everybody is happy and then you wake up and find that none of it is real. When I felt his callused fingers touch my face, I opened my eyes to see his green depths just inches away. His brow was creased in a slight frown that cleared up as our eyes met.
