A New Mate for the Alpha

Ivy's Pov:

Kieran’s new mate? What on earth was this woman talking about? I turned to Kieran for an answer, but he looked just as perplexed as I felt.

“Mate? I don't understand, I already have a mate. Ivy.” He replied stiffly, but she insisted on shamelessly wrapping herself around him, like my presence didn't matter to her.

“The council happens to think otherwise.” She purred, and he immediately peeled her hands off him. His eyes darkened while his brows knitted in anger.

“I don't think they'll be having any more thoughts after this.” He snarled, leaving the room in fury, but not before adding, “Stay here, Ivy. I'll be back soon.”

The door slammed behind him, leaving me alone with the strange woman. She moved towards me like a feline, settling herself cross-legged beside me on the settee.

“I'm Selene, my dad's Alpha Darius of the Blood Moon pack, I'm sure you've heard of him.” She introduced herself, but I could hear the venom in her voice.

“No, not really, I haven't.” I muttered, and I could feel her ego shatter at the thought that there was someone out there who didn't know who she nor her father were.

“I guess that doesn't matter then.” She spoke, almost like a snake's hiss.

“I'm Ivy–” I began, but she cut me off.

“I know who you are. You're from the Blue Moon Pack, I heard you used to be a dust fang. How ironic.” She mocked, and I felt a wave of shame wash over me. “But you know what I also know?” She continued, leaning in so that I could see the disdain in her eyes, “I know that you're the dirty mutt, who doesn't deserve the title Luna and is going to sever the bond with Kieran, so that someone worthy— which is me — can become his mate and give this pack the Luna they deserve.”

“Fat chance.” I whispered. The words came out of my mouth before I realized I had said them.

She jerked back slightly, shocked at my outburst, and then let out a short, incredulous laugh. “Sorry, I'm not sure I got what you just said because you most certainly did not just–.”

“I said, " Fat chance!” I snapped, lifting my chin towards her, “You must be delusional to think I'll do such a thing, I've endured everything up to this point, and I'm not giving it up for anything.”

Her shock at my outburst soon melted into a small impish smile, “Oh my! You’ve got quite the bark in you, but we'll see about that real soon. Toodles, Ivy.” She stood, brushing off imaginary dust off her dress, and then walked out in the same manner she had come in.

A few minutes after she had left, a small rapt on the door caught my attention, and I found Raya standing at the door frame with her unwavering smile. “You okay?”

“You seem to use that word a lot often around me,” I replied with a shaky laugh, “but yes. Yes, I'm okay.”

She moved forward, sitting next to me, “Kieran won't be back soon, so he's asked me to take you back to your room. It's safe now, though.”

“The council members… they're trying to–”

“I know, I heard.” She sighed, taking my hands in hers. “I just want to let you know that whatever the outcome might be, I think highly of you, and I believe you'll do the best for this pack.”

“Thank you.” I managed to respond, trying to control my unease. “Can we go now?”

“Sure.” She replied and led me back to my room in silence.

A few hours later, a heavy knock came on my door, and Kieran stepped in. He looked like he had just come back from the meeting and had come to check on me immediately. The expression on his face told me that things didn't go as he had planned.

“You look like you don't have good news for me.” I said, sitting up from bed.

“They're asking me to sign a contract with Selene,” He said in a hoarse voice. It sounded like he'd been arguing the past few hours. “They want to make her the new Luna of the pack.”

“Are you going to do it?” I whispered, trying to hide the tremble in my voice.

He looked away, probably not wanting me to see the internal battle he was going through, but he admitted. “Depending on the situation I find myself in, I might have no choice but to do it.”

“Oh…” I felt my heart sink into my stomach, but I prompted myself to ask, “If you're eventually forced to… what would happen to me?”

He looked me in the eye, and I could see the distress in them, “You’ll be fine. I promise.”

He got up to leave, but I held him by the hand, “Could you please stay here for a while, I can't sleep.” I pleaded, and I felt him contemplate for a while before giving in.

“I need to take a shower first.” He said. While I felt the warmth of his skin burning through my palms.

“You can use mine.” I offered, immediately regretting it. Heat rose to my cheeks as he stared at me with a quizzical look, and I silently wished I could take my words back.

“Someone’s going to bring a change of clothes here. You can bring it in when they come,” he said, his voice echoing faintly as he disappeared into the bathroom, the door clicking shut behind him. The sound of running water soon followed, filling the quiet room.

I sat alone in the silence, the seconds stretching out painfully. My mind whirled, unable to settle. Every creak of the floorboards outside made my pulse jump. When the soft knock finally came, I nearly leapt to my feet. A young omega stood at the door, with wide and curious eyes. She handed me a neatly folded set of clothes.

“Thank you,” I murmured, clutching the bundle to my chest as I closed the door.

My hands trembled slightly. The thought of walking into the bathroom while he was in there made my face burn with embarrassment. Would it be strange? Too intimate? Or was it normal—expected, even—for mates? I swallowed hard, trying to steady myself as I stood in front of the bathroom door.

I hesitated before raising my hand to knock lightly, but the sound of the water running muffled everything else, so I called out his name softly, “Kieran.”

The water turned off, and he replied in a deep, husky voice, “Yes.”

“I–I have your clothes.” I stammered, clutching them to my chest.

“Bring it in.” He called back, turning the water back on.

I hesitated for a moment, my hand resting on the doorknob. The idea of stepping into the steamy bathroom with him inside made my pulse race. Gathering every shred of courage I had, I slowly turned the knob and slipped inside.

Warm mist from the hot shower clouded the air. The glass of the shower was fogged, but I could just make out his silhouette— his broad shoulders and his tall towering structure.

I kept my eyes down, trying to focus on the clothes in my hands instead of the heat rising in my cheeks. Carefully, I set them on the counter by the sink. “I’ll just… leave them here,” I said quietly, my voice barely above a whisper.

Before I could turn to leave, the water shut off with a final hiss, and the door of the glass shower swung open. My eyes widened, and I froze as I took in the sight of him fully unclad. I turned away immediately, and I could feel my face grow red from embarrassment.

He didn't react. Instead, he inched closer, and I could feel the heat radiating off him. I felt him lean towards me, and my entire body tensed up as he grabbed the towel in front of me.

“You know, if you really wanted to see me naked, you could've just asked.” He whispered, and I immediately turned to him in shock. Seeing that he was still naked, I turned away immediately.

“Maybe you’re the one who enjoys flashing people.” I clapped back.

“Then why did you ask me to use your bathroom?” He countered, and I could tell he was enjoying it.

“I'll leave now.” I announced, turning around with my eye shut as I tried navigating my way out of the bathroom. I could almost feel him staring at me with amazement.

In my blind attempt, I tried to reach for a wall, but I grabbed him instead, and he wounded me up to the sink in a flash. “What are you doing?” I asked, battling to keep my eyes shut.

“I'm giving you what you want.” He said, and I could feel him breathing down on me. “Open your eyes.”

I shook my head in response, “I don't know what you're talking ab–” I started, but he shut me up with a fierce longing kiss.
