**Triggers. Mention of miscarriage**
Laying there in her misery Ashlyn reflected every poor choice in her life. Everything she sacrificed and every moment she bowed her head to others. They were enough to bring her to tears but her heart was too broken for anymore tears so she just laid there, quiet and still, hoping the wolfsbane could take her finally from this hell.
Her prayers were left unanswered as Marcus stormed into the room, tears in his eyes and his entire body shaking as he looked down at Ashlyn who laid there, dismissing him entirely.
"Tell me it isn't true Ashlyn...please. Tell me you didn't attack Lily..." His voice was trembling. He didn't want to believe the calm, kind wife he had always known could be so vicious as to endanger a mother and her unborn pup.
Ashlyn just laid there quietly. Contemplating her words. Her voice was calm, too calm. "Marcus...tell me. How is Dante?"
Marcus was stunned by her question. He felt sheepish, stumbling over his own words. "H..He's fine. The nanny has him." He folded his arms. Trying to seem confident but in reality he hadn't really thought of his and Ashlyn's son.
He never really wanted to be a father in the first place so he wasn't bonded to his pup. A fact Ashlyn was all too aware of as he dared lie to her face. She began to laugh, soft at first but more manic at his response.
She laughed herself to tears, finally calmly down as she looked at Marcus's stunned and clueless expression. She wiped the tears away and looked at him, her stare cold and sharp. "He's fine you say...how amusing...how could an alpha be so clueless?"
He growled at her. "How dare you! What do you know, you lost your mind...I've had to take care of everything! I hoped giving you space would calm your senses but you've only gotten more bold and brazen!"
Ashlyn's eyes narrowed. "Don't you dare pretend any of this was for me...everything I've endured...every moment of agony was done by you!"
He jolted at her words. The cold, murderous look in her eyes. The same ones that used to look on him with love and adoration. He calmed his features, looking down at her.
"I've been more than fair to you. You have everything one needs to live comfortably and how do you repay me?!" His voice took on a sharp edge "by screwing the guards like some adulterous w***e!" Ashlyn was stunned by his accusations, she knew exactly who would feed him such a lie but there was no use in correcting it. Her words never meant anything against Lily's. Instead she just smirked.
"Oh? You want to call me an adulterous w***e? That's rich coming from the man who slept with AND impregnated another woman."
He trembled with barely contained rage at her mocking tone. She was right. He had no moral high ground but he refused to accept his mistakes. It's not the alpha way. Instead he composed himself. "You dare mention your sister, your poor sister...trying to comfort you and bring you companionship and you nearly kill her!"
Ashlyn fake pouted. "Only nearly? I'll have to try harder next time." Her eyes shimmering with malicious intent at the idea.
Marcus looked at her in shock and disgust. "What happened to you...you've always been such a caring and warm hearted person...now I can't even look at you."
His words still managed to sting. Perhaps it was the thin lingering strands of their bond or that fact he looked so lost in this whole drama happening right beneath his nose. She almost pitied him in the moment but she knew better. Even if he didn't know everything, it was his own carelessness that lead them to ruin.
He allowed himself to manipulated. To fall for the charms of another. He gave Lily everything willingly. There was no spell of coercion. It was his own doing. Maybe he thought it natural because he was an alpha. An alpha and omega tend to be codependent, perhaps it was natural but he was still the fool who spoiled another whole neglecting his mate. He had no right to be shocked when his choices led to all of this.
Ashlyn was going to speak when a guard came into the room and whispered in Marcus's ear, his eyes shot open and he left immediately without another word or glance at Ashlyn who laid their on the floor, a sickening knot forming in the pit of her stomach.
Only moments later the cause of that knot burst into the room. Marcus was a raging mess, his teeth bared and claws extended as he sank his teeth into Ashlyn's frail body. He couldn't shift, his wolf refused to harm his mate, but he could still deal heavy damage as he began to to tear at Ashlyn's flesh.
When he had finally managed to calm down Ashlyn was barely holding onto her life. He showed no remorse at her whimpers of anguish, he felt justified.
"You deserve this and much more...you heartless bitch...you killed my pup!"
Ashlyn was confused. Her mind too hazy to focus on what was happening. Other voices came in and chatted in a panic. All she could gather was Lily had miscarried and the unborn pup was a girl. Ashlyn smirked as a Lily came in clutching a bloody bundle in tears.
"Alpha! She killed my baby!" She sobbed in such a convincing way Ashlyn almost believed she felt attached to the child but even Ashlyn could smell the pup wasn't Marcus's. She smiled knowingly.
Ah... That's it then. Ashlyn thought quietly to herself through the chaos. The realization hit her like a bullet train the moment Lily refused to let anyone touch the bundle, the dramatic, over the top away she grieved and the scent of Belial despite him not being present.
The pup was Belial's. There was no doubt. The manipulative pair knew it too and they also knew if Marcus found out he'd be furious so Lily must have used the altercation to miscarry the pup. Ashlyn began to chuckle again. This was getting so ridiculous she couldn't contain herself.
Marcus, still full of rage, lifted her harshly by the neck looking into her eyes with a hate filled intensity that only seemed to amuse Ashlyn. His tone dark and quiet. "What is so funny?"
Ashlyn smiled at him, "you. You're what's fun
You and everyone here." She weakly motioned to those gathering. "You are all so blind.. Or stupid.. I'm not sure which. I find it amusing."
Marcus tightened his hold on her throat, waiting for her to plead him to stop but she didn't. She just smiled. Calm and ready to face death. He growled, throwing her down. His eyes cold as his fists trembled at his sides.
"You're too far gone..." He whispered reluctantly before looking at her firmly. "I, Alpha Marcus Jackson North, accept your rejection." The final snap broke what little bone remained, leaving them both cold and dead inside.
For Ashlyn it was different that the guest few months of this hell but for Marcus, his wolf turned it's back on him. Leaving him feeling regretful but there was no taking it back. The worse part was the look of relief on Ashlyn's face. Did she want to be away from him that bad? He didn't have time to dwell on it as Belial stormed into the room, his eyes full of fury.
"Alpha! The former Luna needs to be held accountable for this... This sin!" He motioned to a sobbing Lily, a part of him hurting for the lost child but he kept his expression together. Not wanting to reveal the truth.
Marcus was quiet. Thoughtful. Usually for something so heinous one would be killed but Ashlyn had been his mate and Luna. To condemn her was difficult but as he looked at Lily clutching the bundle, looking small and broken, he understood what needed to be done.
Marcus looked at Ashlyn, the words caught in his throat as he trembled. Tears welling in his eyes but never falling as he managed to deliver his verdict, "Ashlyn Rose. For your crimes against me and my pack...I hereby sentence you, to death."
