I smiled.
Xavier didn’t want me to leave. It was written all over his emotions. And that did my heart good.
But the pleasure on my face caused him to scowl moodily, so I cleared my throat, tempered the happiness in my chest, and told him, “He wrote back already, saying he’d be here within the fortnight. Then he told me to behave.”
A doomed expression flooded Xavier’s features. “So you told him about us. I…I mean, about…” Momentarily discombobulated about what he wanted to say, he shook his head and started over. “About how your love mark chose me, I meant.”
