It was nearly dawn by the time I returned to my bedchamber.
Two homes in the village had collapsed completely, dozens had damage to them, including the easternmost towers of the castle. The death count was only three so far, but many had been injured.
Everyone wanted answers as to what had happened. And I didn’t have any. The only thing I’d been able to say was that it had been a natural disaster called an earthquake. I couldn’t tell them why it had happened, if it would come back, or how to prepare for more of them.
I felt helpless and useless, and after a night full of assisting healers with bandaging wounds, I just wanted to sleep for a week straight.
