The news of the pregnancy completely blindsided me. I hadn't expected this at all, and to be honest, I didn't even understand what carrying my child would do to her human body. All I knew right then, with my hand still pressed flat against her flushing cheek, was that I had to get her out of this place. I needed to take her back to Georgia where I could get real answers.
I actually don't know what the moon goddess is playing at, it is enough to have a human as my mate… now she is carrying my pup… my heir.
But moving her wasn't an option yet. First, the mating process had to be completed. Without it, she simply wouldn't have the physical strength to survive the bond talk more of carrying a werewolf pup to term.
We couldn't do that here, though. Not in a human hospital. So for now, I just let my energy bleed through my palm into her skin, giving her just enough of a temporary boost to keep her alive until I could get her back to Georgia.
Laura's wrists were still pinned tight in my grip. She was breathing hard, her eyes glued to the heart monitor as the chaotic spikes finally smoothed down into a steady, rhythmic pace. Thump. Thump. Thump. The burning fever that had been cooking her from the inside out was completely breaking under my hand.
"What..." Laura whispered, her voice shaking as she looked from my face to the screen. "What are you? What did you just do to her?" Her voice rang in my head but I didn't look away from Adele. I kept my hand anchored to her skin, making sure the connection stayed steady.
"Diego. Get her out of here.”
Laura
"Hey! Let go of me!" I hissed, digging my sneakers into the slick floor as Diego firmly but carefully pushed me backward out of the room.
He didn't say a word until the heavy wooden door clicked shut, cutting off the view of the bed. He immediately stepped in front of the glass panel, using his broad shoulders to block the window entirely. He wasn't wearing a corporate suit; he just had on a dark, heavy jacket and jeans, looking exactly like the guy from the club, except his posture was totally different now. Stiff, Alert, and Dangerous
.
"She is stable, Laura," Diego said, keeping his voice low enough to avoid drawing attention in the quiet hallway. "Just let him do what he needs to do".
"Let him do what he needs to do?" I repeated, a sharp, breathless laugh slipping out before I could stop it. I stepped right into his space, dropping my voice to a harsh whisper. "Are you out of your mind? I just watched Killian touch my best friend and miraculously reset her heart rate like he's some kind of freakish faith healer. He looked like he wanted to snap my neck just for standing near the bed!"
Diego's face remained completely unreadable. "He's not going to hurt her."
I rubbed my forehead, my brain completely fried out. I looked Diego up and down, trying to reconcile the relaxed guy I had brought home two weeks ago with the man standing guard for Killian Maximus.
"Look," I said, putting my hands on my hips to keep them from shaking. "I'm a grown woman, Diego. I know what a casual fling is. We had a great night, Adele walked in the next morning and cut it short, and you left. I’m not brooding over it, and I'm not looking for some deep explanation about us. But I demand an explanation about this."
Diego’s jaw tightened, his eyes locking onto mine. "There's nothing I can say right now that you'd actually believe, Laura."
"Try me," I snapped, my voice cracking. "Because right now, it looks like my new boss did something to my best friend at his hotel, pretended she never existed at the office, then left the country without a word, and now he’s back acting like a territorial psycho because she’s pregnant. And how did you know why happened and where we were all the way from Georgia?.
Are you guys into some sort of cult or what? Can you just explain what the hell is going on before I lose my mind!.
"He didn't do anything that was intentional to her, I can assure you," Diego said, his tone dropping into something dead serious. He leaned in closer, his voice cutting through my panic. "I know how this looks. I know it makes zero sense. But I swear to you, Killian is here just to help save Adele right now. You saw it yourself in there. Nobody else can fix this. He is the only one. "
I opened my mouth to argue, to tell him how completely insane he sounded, but the words died in my throat. He was right. I had seen it. For ten hours, the doctors couldn't break her fever or fix her rhythm. Killian had done it in three seconds with a single touch.
I looked at the heavy wooden door, my protective instincts crashing hard against the impossible reality of what I had just witnessed.
"What kind of a hold does he have on her?" “Why is he the only one that can help her?” I whispered, looking back up at Diego, a chill running down my spine. "Is Adele dying?"

Jenny’s POV
I shouldn't have told mum I was going to help her deliver the drug in person to her friend in Paris. But honestly? I jumped at the offer the second it left her mouth. I knew it was the perfect opportunity to call Killian and inform him I was in Paris. It would be so nice to spend some quality time with him outside of our usual pack boundaries and away from the stifling atmosphere of the Pack.
The heavy demands from the council were really getting to him lately. Ever since he got back from his trip to Paris two weeks ago, he had been distant, cold, and entirely too locked inside his own head, which had been affecting him everywhere, even in the bedroom
.
He had no idea that I was the one behind all that pressure. I was the one warming Elder Garrick’s bed, keeping the old man satisfied just so he would keep demanding that Killian find a Luna and produce an heir. It was a flawless arrangement. Garrick got what he wanted from me in secret, and in return, he used his authority on the council to push Killian closer to making me his official mate.
Everyone in the pack already assumed I was going to be Luna anyway. I had practically moved my things into his estate back home, and since Killian hadn't said otherwise, I considered the title as good as mine. I just needed the council to finally break his stubborn resistance.
Stepping through the main sliding doors of the public emergency ward, I immediately wrinkled my nose. The place was a total circus. Doctors were rushing past with charts, human patients were coughing in plastic chairs, and the harsh smell of cheap disinfectant made me want to gag. I had traced his phone the moment I landed at Charles de Gaulle, expecting to find him in a high-profile corporate boardroom wrapping up some final loose ends from the company acquisition.
Instead, the tracking signal had brought me to this loud, chaotic waiting wing.
I dodged a rolling gurney and rounded the corner of the hallway, my eyebrows furrowing as I spotted Diego standing guard outside one of the curtained rooms, looking a little too familiar with some human girl in the middle of all this public mess.
Instinctively, I ducked back behind a row of vending machines before Diego could see me, flattening my back against the wall. I tuned out the blare of the hospital intercom and the coughing patients, straining my ears to catch what the human girl was saying to Diego.
Her voice drifted down the corridor, laced with raw panic.
"What kind of a hold does he have on her? Why is he the only one that can help her? Is Adele dying?"
I froze, my grip tightening on my phone as the name echoed in my mind.
Who the hell is Adele?
