Chapter 3

987 Words
~Megan’s POV~ SLAP! “Are you even listening to me you worthless mutt?!” He yells. I snap back to reality, and start to apologise but he cuts me off, threatening me yet again. “I want a late lunch served at 2pm for our guests and the rest of the pack! And cover those bruises! If you make us look bad there will be major consequences!” “Yes sir!” I reply but with much more of a tone than I intended thanks to Lilly pushing forward momentarily. Blake glares at me, grabbing my face in his big meaty hand and bringing his face closer to mine. I flinch a little but his grip forces me to stay still. “Don’t you dare use a tone like that when speaking to me! I am your Alpha and you show me respect or you’ll regret it!” He says menacingly as he pushes me to the ground and storms off. “Why did you force through and make me use that tone? You know sh*t like that only makes things worse for us” I question Lilly as I gingerly pick myself up from the cold marble floor and head back upstairs to finish cleaning. “We’re his pup Megan, not some slave! I can’t stand it anymore! We’re also an Alpha by blood! I can’t sit back and take this crap anymore!” “Lilly, you know we can’t fight back… The only thing we can do is try to run away. Have you thought of anything else we can try to mask our scent better?” I hear Lilly sigh in resignation as she starts to retreat to the back of my mind… “I’ve got some ideas, I’ll think on it some more and we can give them a try tonight…” I continue cleaning on autopilot thinking of possibilities and realise I’ve lost track of time. Crap! I’ve only just finished preparing the guest rooms! I rush downstairs to start getting lunch organised. I decide marinated chicken breast with a variety of salad choices will suffice for lunch as it’s quite quick and easy . Cooking for a whole pack of werewolves is no small feat for one person, werewolves eat at least triple what the average human eats. Even though Skyridge is a smaller pack with only 373 members, that’s still a lot of hungry wolves to cook for! I put some potatoes and eggs in to boil so I can make a potato salad, and start preparing the marinade. It’s a recipe I come up with myself, honey and vegemite, sounds weird but tastes great! One of our pack members is mated to an Australian and she introduced me to the wonders of vegemite when I was younger, and I’ve since discovered it’s great to use in cooking! Once I’m done with lunch preparations I have time to get some of my other chores done before I have to finish the salads and cook the meat. As I walk into the grand entrance hall to dust and mop ahead of our guests arriving, a strange but enticing woody rose scent reaches my nostrils. It’s not something I’ve ever smelled around this pack before. A knock on the door sounds and I realise the guests are here. Oh no! They’re over an hour early and I’m not finished my chores, nor have I had time to cover my bruises! Blake is going to flip his lid! Right on cue Blake storms past me grumbling about his guests arriving early, but stops when he sees me just standing there staring towards the front door. “What the hell are you doing standing there?! Hurry up and get this crap done! You better not embarrass me or this pack in front of our guests!” Blake keeps his voice low so his guests don’t overhear but it’s still deep and dangerous, sending chills down my spine. “I see you haven’t bothered to cover those bruises either! Let your hair down until you put this crap away and then go do something about them before you serve lunch!” I try to snap out of this weird trance I’m in, what the hell is wrong with me?! I feel my body shaking and my voice is low and breathy as I respond to Blake with an absent minded “Yes Alpha.” “Cause any trouble today and I’ll make sure you regret it!” Blake throws a final threat at me before turning away. “Yes Alpha.” This rosewood scent has me completely enraptured, it’s different yet something about it feels so familiar. My heart is racing and it’s getting harder to breathe, especially with Lilly spinning and jumping around, babbling nonsense excitedly in my head. I don’t know what’s up with her either. I tear my eyes away from the door as Blake reaches it, forcing myself to get back to my chores, trying to hurry but in reality my movements are slow and sluggish. I’m starting to worry that I’m having an aneurysm or something! “Lilly? What’s going on?!” “Good afternoon Alpha Michael, Beta Austin, welcome to Skyridge territory!” Blake’s voice booms with pride as he welcomes our guests, distracting me from Lilly’s reply. I quickly gather up the cleaning supplies and move to put them away so I can slip out quickly to do as Blake says. Making my way across the entrance hall and past the front door with my mop and bucket I feel eyes on me as I get closer. I subconsciously look up and the most incredible brown eyes, like deep pools of honey, meet mine. I gasp as unfamiliar tingles erupt on my skin, causing me to lose focus and slip. Clang! Splash! The bucket hits the ground spilling water everywhere as I fall towards the cold marble floor…
