I could hear the sound of my heartbeat pounding in my head, my pulse quickening with each second I waited for him to tell me whether he had my mum or not. Somewhere lingering in my mind were Parco's words. He must be mocking me, but I couldn't deny that there was a level of truth in them, which only heightened my anxiety. Mum not picking up my calls added greatly to my agitation.
"What is it? What is wrong with my mother?" I asked, my voice edged with urgency, feeling like he was delaying the answer I desperately needed.
