Specific Crime
She bit her lower lip as she stared at the scattered parchment in front of her. While deliberating on what she needs to do next, a knock sounded from her office's door.
"Come in,"
The door opened, from there, Elise and Eufema entered. The two looked refreshed especially Eufema, she's already beautiful as it is but now it almost seemed like she is glowing! Her aura is very light and approachable, unlike her usual cold demeanor. She leaned on her chair after gesturing for the two ladies in front of her to sit.
"'Sup?" She asked casually.
"My lady~ Are you still busy?" Elise asked while sitting in front of her.
She glanced at her messy table and Elise followed the direction of her eyes, seeing that, Zaire knows she doesn't need to answer her lady maid's question anymore.
Elise sighed in disappointment. "Too bad, my lady. I was hoping to go with you to meet Eufema's cousin."
Upon the mention of Eufema, she turned to the ice elf in front of her before asking.
"That child is awake?"
Eufema nodded her head. "Almer has woken up thanks to your continuous care. Truthfully, I can't explain how much I'm— "
She quickly cut her off before she can finish her words. "Eufema, really, I told you it's fine. You are part of this auction house, one of ours, it's only right that you are taken care of and so are the people you care about."
"Lady Jozine..." Eufema's eyes sparkled in gratitude, she can almost see them turning into the shape of hearts, thankfully, they didn't.
"I would like to go but since I am busy, as you can see, let's postpone my meeting with the little guy. Elise," she turned to Elise who still looks disappointed, "why not accompany Eufema in my stead? I'll call for the two of you once I'm done."
That being said, Elise's face brightened. "I will ensure that the young boy is comfortable in his stay here my lady!" And she's back to her usual lively attitude.
The two stayed to chat with her for a little while and only left when Blake announced his arrival.
Blake placed several rolled parchments in front of her. She opened the scrolls one by one, as she read the written information inside, she sighed and placed the first parchment she was done reading then leaned on her chair.
Up until now the clue they have from the incident on the trial, Ibin and his assistant Tebras are wiped out. Both of them died, after all, unfortunately, Ibin died in the hands of his trusted assistant, still, it's unfortunate since she was planning on squeezing information that Ibin might know but since he was killed right off the bat by Tebras then it can't be helped. Either Ibin holds quite the useful inside information or he's simply a discarded tool by Tebras.
Zaire massaged her temple. Dark magic, evil magic, the kingdom... seriously, isn't she quite busy? Too busy in fact.
"Well, what about Ibin's family, what of them?"
Ibin hailed from a proud family of mages, they pride their abilities and magic that's why she wants to know whether his parents are aware of his doings.
"Unfortunately Master, his parents are both unaware of his connection with Tebras, they are unaware of his personality as a mage as well."
Unaware of their own son's personality? So, they don't know what type of mage Ibin is? Based on her encounter with Ibin, he sure is an arrogant mage with an inferiority complex and anger management issues. Was it because he was under some sort of spell done by Tebras? She doesn't know.
"So they're clear?"
Blake nodded his head. "We observed them for over two weeks now since the information regarding the involvement of evil magic but they did not move suspiciously. They were the typical noble but their passion for magic was genuine, Master. They are also part of the Anti-Dark Magic Alliance and absolutely adhere to the etiquette of magic and mages."
Anti-Dark Magic Alliance. Well, although the name kind of ticks her off because it's supposed to be 'Anti-Evil Magic Alliance' but considering the fact that only a few know of the difference between evil magic and dark magic, Zaire chose to understand instead. It's an alliance made by mages who devoted themselves to the proper use of magic so she considers them on the good side. Even the duke and marquess talk about the alliance positively except that all of the members are typical noble, you know, prideful, and all.
"Phew,"
She breathed a sigh of relief. Since Ibin's parents are not involved with evil magic then they're now stuck. There are no further leads regarding those that are involved with evil magic. She gritted her teeth.
Her goal is to live a chill life, for now, that goal is still unachievable since she's tangled in numerous incidents but that doesn't mean that she will give up. She listed all that she needs to do bit by bit.
Her first aim is to catch every person involved in evil magic residing in Griselda, their base of operation. Griselda is the ideal place she wishes to live since it's where the auction house, she grew comfortable at Griselda more than anywhere else. She's never been to the capital personally but based on Jozine's memories, the capital is a crowded place.
She opened the next parchment, once done reading, she looked at Blake who is still standing in front of her. Blake would never sit in front of her, never. She tried telling him to do so but Blake stubbornly declined and told her it's against his 'code', since he's firm about it she chose to let him be.
She took one of the envelopes inside the cabinet and handed it to Blake. "Send this letter to Duke Franklin, as discreetly as possible."
"Yes, Master."
She has a lot of things scheduled for today that's why summoned her familiars. A smoke colored brown, red, blue, and black glowed in front of her, once the smoke is gone, there stood four inhumanely gorgeous beings.
"Mistress~!!" Kiera proceeded to hug her when she stood up while Alarkson went to sit on the couches. Vana took the parchment on her table and started reading them while Siren went to the corner and started preparing something for them to drink.
"Hey Kiera, you're also hyper today," she commented.
"Of course, Mistress~"
"What is your grand plan, Mistress?" Alarkson asked while lazily sitting on the couch. He might be a little less undignified right now but he's still a dragon and also her familiar, Alarkson and the other knows what's running on her mind right now.
She smirked before she sat in front of Alarkson and invited them too.
THE CITY of Griselda is a big city, for that reason, there are crimes committed every day from small crimes like robbery, scamming travelers, to heavy crimes like k********g, and murder. These crimes are handled by the knights that patrol the city to ensure the safety of the citizens. On a certain area on the north side of the city, it's known as the 'Dump Site'. It's not the garbage that the citizens dump in this place, it's the bodies of the murdered people that are dumped in this place, daily.
This has been going on for one week now, the knights are troubled because no matter what they did they still aren't able to catch whoever is committing the crime or dumping the bodies. They also asked for help from the mages in case whoever is dumping the body is using magic they will be able to catch them with the mage's help but still, all their efforts are futile.
"Sir Dawson, the body is in a similar state as the former bodies we found." Said one of the knights from the knight order, Silver Moon.
Silver Moon is the knight order that protects Griselda and the nearby towns and lands, this order of the knights is from the ducal house of Bernard, Duke Franklin's ducal house.
"Take the body back to the quarters and have them investigate the man's identity. Contact any of the people with missing family members."
"Yes, Sir,"
Dawson, leader of the North Wing of the Silver Moon order trailed his eyes of the report given to him by his junior.
Out of the six bodies thus far, only two are identified. They were both commoners, one of the two bodies is a hunter, the other four identities of the four bodies are still unknown up until now. Dawson hopes that this seventh body's identity will be known. Dawson doesn't know whether he should hope that there is a family waiting for the body or not since if that family finds out the fate of their loved one, he knows they'll surely be in pain.
The body suffered the same fate as that of the former bodies found, all of the bodies' blood we're almost squeezed dry, that's why the body of the victims was utterly pale, the bones in their bodies outlined as if their skins only served as a thin layer.
There are also two small marks on their necks.
Dawson heaved a deep sigh before he ordered the remaining knights to patrol the area again and intensified the security on the nearby streets. Griselda is in a state of strict curfew in fear of this crime intensifying. The knights made sure that all citizens are home before the sun sets.
While Dawson and the knights continued their intense patrol around the area, a certain being hidden in the shadows simply smirked while watching the knights' fruitless effort. They will never catch whoever is placing the bodies on that site. Especially not when the rice comes to the chicken instead, could they still call them the victims?
With a final look, the being disappeared on the clandestine door unknown to the knights.
