Welcoming Nyctophilia
Zaire eyed the broken magic circle in front of her, then, she sighed.
"What's this used for?" She asked herself.
As she was busy observing the broken magic circle, she glanced at her summon, Rou, who is busy with his 'clean-up'.
As much as she would like to check what the magic circle is, for now, she must postpone it. Using flight magic, Zaire flew upwards.
"Rou, we're going north."
"Yes, Master!"
In a blink of an eye, the two flew towards the northern part of the city.
Zaire is unable to contact Aya once again that's why she wasn't able to find out what the magic circle is for. For now, she decided to focus on breaking the pillars that cover the city's sky and weaken the mages.
Undead rose from the ground out of nowhere, afterward there are marching monsters on their way to the city. Who would think that this is all coincidence? Only brainless would. Honestly, she expected that those people, Tebras' boss will do something soon but not this soon and to this extent. She can't be sure just yet if these are all the doing of Tebras' boss or others, anyhow, for now, she will need to break the pillars to break the barrier.
It was only possible to send the troops because Blake and Eufema scouted outside the city and rescued the people outside using the mass teleportation scroll she gave them.
When she saw the vision of the monsters appearing out of nowhere, and on their way to the city, she began planning. If she didn't have the vision she probably wouldn't know that there are people outside the city. She wanted to ignore them but she knew it will prick her conscience so instead of having them bother her with nightmares, she ordered Blake and Eufema to take the people in. Afterward, with her familiars' help, they disrupted the magic barrier on the north, south, east, and then west so that the troops can pass through. The ominous barrier not only sucks the mages' magic but also traps the people inside the city.
'Unfortunately for them, I got supplies of magic items and artifacts, hehe.'
She snickered while thinking. She will become a thorn just like how they are to her life.
The undead is nearly gone, aside from her and Rou, some knights and hunters were left to deal with the remaining undead, soon it will be over.
She has to quickly destroy the pillars so they can join the others in fighting off the upcoming monsters. Zaire glanced at the city's wall, even if she's far from the wall she can hear the sounds of battle raging. She can't feel the ground shaking because she is in mid-air but she can see the standing establishments shaking.
She spotted two pillars near each other.
'Bingo!'
With the special magic item 'Earrings of Gwyneth' that amplifies her magic by five times and also decreases the magic consumption in half, she is able to release a powerful attack and defense even though she uses a basic spell. The earring has a simple design of a small blooming flower, the material is similar in color to silver but it's actually a Divine Slythoise's fang with a turquoise gem in the middle.
"This is another cheat item," she mumbled.
Since the barrier interferes with the flow of magic, she is unable to use magic energy from her surroundings which she usually does. Instead, she has no choice but to use her internal magic, magic from her magic base.
She rarely used her magic base that's why she has to clearly observe the changes in her body, she has to be extra careful as well. It will be troublesome if she exhausts her magic during this uncertain and dangerous situation.
"Rou, be on standby and don't use your magic if you can." She ordered her summon.
"I will do as you command, Master."
"Mhm!"
With a nod of her head, she lifted her hand then channeled her magic from her magic base to the tip of her index finger which is pointed at the pillar.
"Eagle's Slashing Talons."
The wind blew softly then it formed four gigantic and curved claw-like marks. It accelerated towards the two pillars she was aiming for. The spell surged and upon contact, the pillar sliced in half like melting butter. As a result, the dark barrier faded a little. She can also feel that the magic is somewhat returning, still, it's not enough for mages to properly use their magic without any backlash. She still has to destroy the other pillars.
With a deep sigh, Zaire turned around in another direction but froze.
In front of her is a man, a being whose entire head is covered in black as if it's his or her skin. There is a wide grin plastered on the stranger's face.
Then, it spoke. "Can't have 'ya ruinin our plans, no? Just sleep peacefully, eh, missy?" It's a man's voice.
KURK
Zaire swallowed her saliva. Strangely, it has a strong taste of metal. The man pulled away from her, it was then, the feeling of magic completely disappeared from her body and at the same time, she felt a burning yet numbing sensation on her stomach. Zaire felt the violent wind behind her, it blew her hair everywhere, from her point of view, she watches as the man looked down on her from mid-air.
'I'm falling...'
Her head is blurry and unfocused. It was then that she realized, she will die. She can't use her magic, her stomach is bleeding, she can even imagine her blood being blown by the wind as well.
'Hah... I haven't been able to live my chill life...' Zaire closed her eyes, the sensation of her entire body is gone. She does not know whether she's still falling or she finally hit the ground and is now in pieces. If there's one thing she knows, she's in peace. Something she can only experience... "Jozine..." she whispered, finally, her consciousness faded.
