The Centurions Lady Suri's water magic attack doesn't look like an attack to the people who witnessed her wield her magic at all. To them, it looked like a fairy, no, a celestial has descended the mortal lands. With every gesture of her hands as she casts her spell, floating and glistening blue water followed Lady Suri's movements. After unleashing a Divine level spell, Suri’s knees buckled as she heavily breathed. “Is... is it over?” She asked herself while looking at the piles monster corpse. There is no longer monster rampaging her way, when she turned to her allies, they too are finishing up. ‘It’s over...’ Suri thought, relieved that the battle is finally done. While looking around, she caught the sight of mages, hunters, and knights gathering the bodies of their allies and her heart clenched. They won but it did not mean that all of them got to live. Suri felt guilty. She felt guilty for being alive while numerous others laid lifeless on the very land they fought. She looked away then looked up to the sky and prayed. ‘If the gods are listening... please... may their soul lay in peace with you...’ Suri knew the terror of wars, she knew the aftermath of battles whether it be between humans or non-humans. Wars are merciless. Just thinking about the faces of the deceased’s family made her heart clench. If only... if only she is strong enough to protect everyone. Suri knew it was a naive way of thinking however she can’t stop herself. As children are the most affected by these circumstances, Suri believed no child should experience the suffering of losing someone dear to them for such young ages. It isn’t fair. During this time, Suri does not know whether she should be guilty for being alive, for being a privileged noble, or for being powerless unable to save all the people with her. Nonetheless, whatever the case may be for her, it still left a bitter taste in her mouth regardless of what she feels guilty about. Suri hardened her heart and stood up, she dusted off her trousers. Dresses are not suitable for a battle that’s why she specifically ordered trousers used by males. She was told it was unladylike by her mother but who cares about whether it was ladylike or not, what matters is to be able to fight properly. She turned around ready to leave when she heard heavy footsteps. No, it isn’t exactly footsteps hitting the ground. It sounded more like something crushing something with a heavy weight. When Suri turned back her eyes on the battlefield filled with monsters corpses, her eyes widen upon seeing a flash of light on her face, then, someone blocked her view, the next thing she knew an explosion happened above her. When Suri looked up, something trickled down her cheeks. Suri wiped it off to check what it was. It’s a red liquid... it’s sticky and it smells... familiar. Suri’s eyes widen when she heard a sinister chuckle in front of her. “Will you look at that? Someone was able to stop my blood lance in this puny place...” It’s a deep voice of a man. The malice and amusement in his voice are undeniable. ‘...blood...’ She had a hunch that the liquid that rained down on her was blood but she did not expect it to be true. “I also did not expect that someone would stink just like you do...” Suri heard the familiar voice of Lady Kiera replied. It was Lady Kiera who deflected the attack that almost penetrated her skulls. If it wasn’t for Lady Kiera she... she would have died...! Suri shivered just by imagining her fate if Lady Kiera did not appear in front of her on time. There is no doubt about it, she could have died! Suri’s knees trembled. ‘Ah...! Stop, stop! I must calm down! I – I – I am scared...’ Suri is not an arrogant noble lady. She is dignified and always takes her role as a noble seriously. She might be unapproachable to others but she simply believed it to be her role, not to stand above others but to display what it truly meant to be a noble. To serve the people with dignity. She craves for knowledge in terms of magic to further strengthen herself. She was thought to always be prepared for the worst. To always remain calm at all times because as a noble, it is her duty to lead the people once the unexpected happens. She has always been calm and believed that she is ready to face anything if it meant being able to display what nobility truly means... until now. She can’t remain calm at all. Her knees are trembling in fear, she couldn’t stop her hands from shaking even if she wants to. She is scared that she can’t even move. Suri tried her best to ease her fear, she tried but... she couldn’t move from her spot. “Hey, that lady behind you is frozen still. Is she all right?” The malicious voice asked. Suri flinched feeling the burning gaze of the man, although Lady Kiera is covering her, she can still feel his eyes on her, her fear intensified. As if sensing her fear, the man burst out laughing. “Kuhahahaha! How is she a genius when she’s that pathetic?” Suri couldn’t react to his insult because she’s too frightened to do so. Just his voice alone has always rendered her in such a pathetic state yet she could do anything. “Eh?” It was Lady Kiera. Because Suri’s head is bowed down in fear and hope of not catching the man’s attention once more, she couldn’t see that Lady Kiera is doing is looking at her. “I mean, I’d be scared too if someone who smells like you approached me.” Lady Kiera added in a tone that states a fact. “Kuhahaha! Are you saying you can smell the blood of the mindless upon me?” Once again, the man burst out laughing. “Blood? Eh? I don’t know, you just stink to me. It smells like rotten cheese on a dump.” Lady Kiera replied. Suri does not comprehend how the lady is frighteningly calm in this situation while here she is can’t stop herself from trembling. “You are very amusing, Lady. May I ask what your name is?” “Oh, sure. My name is Kiera, yours?” “Aha! Kiera, that is a wonderful name you got. Let me introduce myself in return, Lady Kiera,” Kiera nodded her head. The man shifted his right leg behind him and bent a little with his hands on his chest. It’s a courtesy often shown in front of royalties, especially to a king. Not that Kiera is aware of this. She is more focused on assessing the man in front of her who – like her is wearing a mask. For others, their conversation sounded ridiculous. It’s like they are old friends. “I am Sodiyu, a centurion under the great Master of Plague. I have come to annihilate you as I was ordered to.” The man, with blood-red eyes, evilly smiled. “Please, treat me well!” To be continued... HEY!
