Chapter 20 I can see light behind my eyelids. Then darkness again. I can’t remember the last time I opened my eyes. The only thing I remember was the butt of an AK-47 flying at my face. Then darkness. The darkness was a relief. It took the pain away. But now the pain is back. And it’s everywhere. The building shakes. I can feel it vibrating beneath me. There are sounds I recognize. Gunshots. Screaming. I must be alive. If I was dead, I wouldn’t feel pain. I try to lift my head, but I can’t. I can feel it lolling on my shoulders. My throat is raw.
