Chapter Twenty: The Reunion
The car pulled up in front of the house, and Jamie could already hear the commotion inside.
They knew.
Max and Ace had felt his absence, and now that he was back, they were letting the world know.
Jamie barely had time to step out before the door flew open.
Ace was first—his massive frame moved like a force of nature, paws hitting the ground heavily as he charged toward Jamie, his deep, rumbling bark filling the air. Max wasn’t far behind, his
usual white blur of energy bouncing toward him in excitement.
Jamie knelt just in time.
Ace nearly knocked him over, pushing his giant head into Jamie’s chest, his weight pressing
into him, tail wagging uncontrollably. Max was on top of him in seconds, licking his face,
whining, letting out short bursts of yelps that were both excited and angry—as if scolding Jamie for leaving in the first place.
Jamie laughed, rubbing their fur, letting them climb all over him.
“I missed you too, you big babies.”
Ace’s deep brown eyes locked onto him, scanning his face as if making sure he was really
there. Max, still as wild as ever, nipped at Jamie’s sleeve before running in circles around him, barking in short bursts.
Jamie took a deep breath, letting the moment settle.
Then, he turned toward the car.
“Alright, boys,” he said, standing up, “I brought you a surprise.”
Max stopped running.
Ace’s tail slowed its wag.
They both watched as Jamie opened the door.
And out stepped Luna.
For a brief moment, there was silence.
Then, Max’s ears perked up, his entire body going still as he stared at her. Ace, always
observant, didn’t move, his gaze studying the small Husky who stood beside Jamie, her blue eyes flicking between them.
Luna sniffed the air, tilting her head at the two giant dogs in front of her.
Jamie knelt beside her, rubbing her neck. “Boys, meet your baby sister.”
Max was the first to react.
He darted forward, tail wagging furiously, sniffing her all over, his excitement barely contained. He let out a playful bark, hopping from side to side, clearly ready to wrestle.
Luna huffed, stepping back slightly, unsure of his chaotic energy.
Ace, however, took a different approach.
He walked slowly toward her, towering over her tiny frame. He lowered his massive head, sniffing her once, then twice, before finally letting out a deep, approving grunt.
Jamie smiled.
That was Ace’s way of saying she’s one of us now.
Luna blinked up at him, then, as if sensing she was safe, she licked his nose.
Max barked again, this time running in circles around both of them, his excitement spilling
Luna tilted her head at him, then, deciding she had seen enough, she jumped forward—right onto Max.
The wrestling match began instantly.
Jamie laughed, watching as they tumbled together, rolling across the ground in a blur of black, white, and brown fur. Ace sat beside Jamie, watching calmly, his eyes never leaving Luna.
“She’s gonna be trouble,” Jamie said, scratching Ace’s head.
Ace huffed, as if to say, Tell me something I don’t know.
Jamie exhaled, his heart full.
For the first time in his life, he felt like he had built something truly his.
A home that wasn’t just walls.
A family that wasn’t just blood.
This was it.
This was everything.
Chapter: The Open Road
Days turned into weeks, weeks into months.
Life with Max, Ace, and Luna wasn’t always easy, but it was right.
Mornings were chaotic—Max stealing something he wasn’t supposed to, Luna trying to follow Ace’s every move, Ace keeping them both in line.
Evenings were peaceful—long walks, late-night talks, and the comforting silence of knowing they would always be there for each other.
Jamie often thought about where life would take him next.
Would he stay in this city forever? Would he build something bigger? Would there be more additions to the family?
He didn’t have all the answers.
But he knew one thing for sure.
No matter where the road led, no matter how many changes life threw his way—
He would never walk it alone.
Because Max, Ace, and Luna would always be right there with him.
And that was all he ever needed.
The End OR Was It?.
Final Chapter: A New Beginning
Life had changed, but for Jamie, this wasn’t the end of a story.
It was the beginning of something greater.
Max, Ace, and now Luna—his trio—were more than just dogs. They were his family, his home, his reason.
Every morning, he woke up to the sound of paws padding across the floor, tailswagging, eager eyes watching him stir from sleep. Max, always the first to cause trouble, would already have something in his mouth—whether it was Jamie’s sock, a shoe, or, on one occasion, an entire towel.
Luna, still adjusting to her new life, had taken to shadowing Ace wherever he went. She
followed his every step, mimicked his every move, as if trying to figure out how to be part of the family.
And Ace… Ace had become the silent guardian of them all.
Everytime Jamie walked through the house, he felt Ace’s eyes on him—not with curiosity, not with suspicion, but with quiet devotion. The promise he had made to himself long ago, the silent vow to protect, was now a part of who he was.
Jamie smiled.
This wasn’t just about having dogs.
It was about living.
It was about waking up every day with purpose, knowing that no matter what happened, no matter how chaotic life got, he had something real.
Something permanent.
As he sat outside that evening, watching Max and Luna wrestle in the dirt while Ace observed with his usual calm demeanor, Jamie exhaled deeply.
He didn’t know what the future held.
He didn’t know where life would take him next.
But he knew one thing.
No matter where the road led, he wasn’t walking it alone.
Max,Ace, and Luna—his trio—were with him.
And together, they were unstoppable.
This wasn’t the end of the story.
It was just the beginning.....
