Blake opened his eyes and looked toward the window. It was still night outside. “Iris…” he said slowly. He tossed the covers aside and swung his legs over the side of the bed. He got to his feet and made his way to the door. Stubbing his toe on the corner of the bench at the foot of the bed, he swore under his breath. His toe throbbing, Blake limped to the door and jerked it open. He headed down the dark hallway and entered Iris's bedroom. Blake walked to the dresser and pulled a face mask out of the box. Slipping it on, he moved to the bed and bent over Iris. Slowly, without waking her up, Blake touched her forehead and breathed a sigh of relief when he felt how cool her skin was.
