CHAPTER FIVE

I closed my eyes gently and took one deep breath in, before knocking on the door. I stood at a black mahogany door that was the office of my hopefully would-be boss. "Come in." A masculine voice called from the inside. I opened the door with my clammy hands, pushing my glasses up the bridge of my nose to avoid it falling. I had worn it as a disguise for the swelling, but I had noticed the drastic change in the way that I looked too, which was a major plus for me. He stood facing the glass wall, staring at the city through the large window. Maybe I would blame it on my timid nature, or perhaps on the aura of complete authority and power that surrounded the man, but the urge to just run and hide that I had previously succeeded in suppressing was back in full force. I couldn't hold on anymore. Thinking that this was a bad idea, I was about to back out quietly and leave his office, when the door shut loudly behind me. So much for being ladylike. "Ah... Miss Tennisson, you are very welcome..." He spoke up suddenly, startling me badly. I hadn't expected him to instantly address me. He swiveled around to face me, and all of a sudden I forgot how to breathe. My body system sharply reacted to the sudden movement. When they told me that I would be meeting the CEO of the company for the interview, I imagined that I would be face to face with a Stern-looking old man, who could kill me just by looking at me. I imagined someone who was probably around my father's age, to question me about my education, and experience. But before me, was a man so beautiful, that I couldn't find the ability to speak any longer. It was as if the mighty one above had taken some time out separately just to create him. He had light brown skin, large dark brown eyes, and closely shaven inky black hair that was tousled. He had a little beard, something that looked very neat and simple, yet managed to make me like it. He was clad in a black suit, and a blue dress shirt on the inside that had few buttons open revealing a goddamn smooth chest, and a double chain necklace. His aura had a certain type of vibe to it; charismatic, challenging, dominant. Damn! His physical attributes were a lot for me to take in. "... Miss Tennisson." He called me, quirking a single thick and perfect eyebrow up. That is when I realized that I had been standing there speechlessly, staring at him like he was my savior. Way to go, Aisha. I hadn't even started the interview, yet I had already embarrassed myself. How wonderful. "Oh, yes. I'm so sorry, Mr...?" "Williams. Harry Williams." He extended his hand for a handshake. "Pleasure to meet you, sir. Aisha Tennisson." A jolt of electricity coursed through my body as I took his hand into mine for a handshake. I was already trying very hard not to melt thanks to his smooth, deep, and rich voice, coupled with the way he was looking at me. For the first time in my life, I found myself desiring someone badly. "Snap out of it Aisha, you know you can't be doing this." my subconscious mind reprimanded me. I had a fiance for goodness sake. I couldn't be drooling over another man, that was just plain wrong. We let go of each other's hands, and took our seats; him behind the large mahogany desk on his large rolling chair, I before him on the guest chair. "So I understand that you want to work with us, more precisely with me, Miss Tennisson. I understood that the interview had finally started. Here goes nothing. "Yes sir. That is correct." "Do you have a degree?" "Yes, Mr Williams. I have two." I removed a flat file from the handbag that I had carried along with me. Opening it, I lay it down on the table for him to see. He pulled it closer with his long fingers that looked like something that was sculpted. He was perfect all over. Focus on what you're here for and leave him girl. As he scrutinized the certificates that I lay before him, I took the time to look around me. It was still just nine o'clock in the morning. The city was busy with people rushing to work and school and the cars moved up and down the streets. London was very lively during the morning time. He must have been enjoying the view outside, because where we were was high up, and it was like you could see the whole city from this office. The office itself was quite stunning. The designer had a very simple taste, yet managed to blend the colors teal and black very well to make it look sophisticated. "This is quite impressive, Miss Tennisson." His honey-like voice sounded, bringing me back to the real world. He was done with looking through my degrees and had closed the file. "Thank you, sir." I retorted with a proud smile. I was always happy whenever someone complimented my certificates, even though it was subtle. My education status was my major pride. "However we cannot hire you. " What I had been. fearful of finally ooccurring My smile fell almost instantly, and the urge to cry clouded every other sense. Why had he given me hope then? "... You do understand that the crimes your father had committed greatly affect you, yes?" "But I am not my father!..." I suddenly burst out in desperation, no longer able to take the weight. I don't know where the audacity came from, but in seconds, I was on my knees begging him. I just couldn't let this great opportunity slip away. "... Please sir. I beg of you, just give me a chance to prove that I could be a very efficient Personal assistant. I need this job. Please..." I pleaded, my eyes pricking with unshed tears, my hands joined together. He looked at me first in surprise, then skepticism for a few moments, before sighing. "Fine. I will give you a chance to prove yourself." My eyes brightened like that of a happy infant and I instantly sprung up from my knees, no longer able to hold back the tears, but this time for joy. "Oh, thank you, sir! Thank you very much-" "But under one condition." He cut through my sentence. "Condition?" I thought. Oh? I was willing to do anything at this point just to get the job. "Anything, Mr Williams." "Wonderful. You will be my surrogate."
