Stilts stands next to Rose. They both look down on her lifeless body. A new deal has been struck. He looks over at Rose and smiles. She’d have been a bad fit for Horned King. He reigns over the Court of Tears.
“You sure you’re ready for this?” Stilts asks Rose.
“Yeah, I’m sure.”
“Everyone thinks you’re dead.”
She shrugs.
“Don’t care.”
Stilts smiles widely, showing his teeth.
“Excellent.” Pulling out his golden pen, he produces a contract. He holds the pen out to Rose, and she takes it. The moment she does, it activates, extracting the blood from her thumb. “Use it to sign here please.”
When she does. Stilts lets out another satisfied breath.
“Now what?” she asks.
“Now, you leave.”
“Just like that?”
