8 The Hall Of Memories Rose Present day I find inside my room at the asylum. The moment of blackness was just that, a blip. The memory is one I wish I could take back, though. But I can’t. My mother and sister are lost to me. Lucy is lying, she has to be. I checked myself in here. I wasn’t captured or brought here to be studied. Bear is dead. My sister and mother killed him, and, in return, I ended their lives. It’s as simple as that. My roommate Nell isn’t here. That’s not particularly unusual, but what bothers me is the lack of sounds from the other side of the wall. My neighbors seem nonexistent right now. The sounds of mumbling and chaotic ramblings are absent. I hear nothing. “You’ve put yourself in a peculiar predicament, Rose.” I jump at the sound of his voice as he pops in.
