Chapter 2: Noah . . . . . " And I love you too… " He whispered again, but this time his gaze dropped, his hand moving to her stomach, his voice softening even more, " to you too, little one. " And then— a sound. Too loud. Too sudden. A horn— blaring, cutting through everything, harsh and violent, tearing the moment apart before they could even understand what was happening. Her breath caught instantly, her body going rigid as the world around her shifted in a way that felt wrong, dangerously wrong. His grip on her hand tightened. Something moved too fast from the side— far too fast for her eyes to follow, for her mind to process— just a blur of motion and light rushing toward them. A flash. An impact that ripped through the silence like it never existed. Glass shattered and everything broke with it. " There are pieces of glass in her body… we need to remove them first. " Her body jerked faintly against the hospital bed, a weak, involuntary reaction as the memory tore through her, dragging her back into something she wasn’t ready to face, something her mind was still trying to escape. " My baby…!!?? " Her fingers curled almost desperately, toward her stomach, as if she needed to feel it— needed to make sure, needed some kind of confirmation that their baby was still there, still safe, that nothing had been taken from her without her knowing. The nurse applied the disinfectant, and the sharp, sterile smell consumed her instantly, cutting through everything else, forcing its way into her lungs, making her chest tighten as if even breathing had turned clinical and foreign. " Is she pregnant or what? " One of them asked, voice low but firm, already moving with purpose. " We don’t know yet, " Another replied quickly. " No records on file. She came in unconscious. " A pause. " There’s abdominal trauma… we need to be careful. " " Exactly why we need to know. If she’s pregnant, this changes everything. " " Prep for ultrasound. " The cold gel touched her skin. " Can you hear me, Miss? " A voice came closer, sharper now, trying to reach through the haze. " Stay with us. Don’t close your eyes. " A machine beeped louder. " Pressure’s dropping further. " " Increase fluids. Get blood ready— crossmatch now. " " We’re getting a reading— hold on… " Silence stretched for a second, tense, fragile. " I need a clearer image. Move— just slightly. " " Careful, she has glass fragments. " " I know. Just— steady… " Another pause. " There’s… " The voice hesitated. " What? " " I’m not confirming anything yet. We need a proper scan. " " Fine. But we don’t wait. Stabilize first. " Hands moved faster now, more urgent, more precise. " She’s slipping. Stay with me— can you hear me? " The voices blurred again. Fading. But the words lingered— Pregnant. Yes, she is pregnant. The thought surfaced slowly, breaking through the haze, fragile yet persistent, holding onto her even as everything else began to fall apart. Her vision blurred again before clearing just enough— just enough for her to see him. " Noah! " The smell of petrol hit her next. Strong. Sharp. It filled her lungs, harsh and suffocating, mixing with the metallic scent of blood that lingered in the air. Blood at his temple. A thin line trailing down, too red, too real, but his eyes— still on her. Still steady. Still there, as if nothing else mattered. " Myra— " His voice came through, strained now, urgent, carrying something she had never heard before. Something was wrong. Terribly wrong. She tried to move, her body protesting instantly, pain shooting through her before she could even lift herself, before she could reach him, before she could understand what was happening. " Don’t— " He reached for her, stopping her before she could try again. Her heart was racing now, fast and uneven, panic beginning to settle deep into her chest. " What— what happened? " She whispered, her voice breaking, barely holding together. He didn’t answer. Not immediately. His gaze flicked somewhere else— past her, over her shoulder and then back to her again. Something had changed. Not fear. Something worse. Behind her, a sharp, uneven hiss filled the air— the sound of fuel leaking from the crushed front of the car, the smell of petrol growing stronger, heavier, almost suffocating. " Noah…? " Her voice trembled, fragile, uncertain. Her stomach dropped. From somewhere near the engine, broken metal scraped against itself, sending small, erratic sparks into the air, flickering dangerously close to where the fuel had begun to spread. The realization settled in his eyes before it reached hers. Decision. " I am scared. " He reached for her face, his thumb brushing just under her eye, slow and grounding, as if he was trying to steady her, to memorize her in the same moment. " Stay with me, " He said quietly. The world around them felt like it was collapsing— the smell, the heat beginning to rise, the distant crackle of something about to go wrong— but his voice… his voice was calm. Too calm. Her chest tightened painfully. " I am— " She tried to say, her breath uneven, her thoughts slipping. But he shook his head slightly, cutting her off before she could finish. " Mia. " The name slipped out so softly it almost didn’t feel real. Her breath hitched. He didn’t use it often. Only when— only when he meant it. Her fingers tightened around his wrist, desperation rising, sharp and sudden. " Don’t— " She started, panic breaking through now. But he leaned closer, his forehead almost touching hers, his voice dropping into something quiet, something final. " I love you both. " And then— Force. A sudden push. Her body moved before she could understand it, before she could resist, before she could hold onto him. Pain exploded through her side as she was thrown away from the seat, her body hitting something hard, the world spinning violently around her. Her vision blurred. Faded. The last thing she saw— was him. And then— a sudden flare. Flames burst from the wrecked front of the car, catching the leaking fuel and spreading too fast, too wild, rising in seconds and swallowing everything in their path. Not looking at himself. Not trying to get out. Looking at her. " …NOAH…!!!! " ... .. .
