32 AARON It felt good to be back at the gym giving my muscles a workout even though I’d had a few hours of excellent cardio over the weekend. Telling Martin I would be available for longer shifts pumped me up even more, especially seeing there was a light at the end of the financial trouble tunnel. I grinned, flying high as a f*****g kite knowing I didn’t have to rush home at nine to care for Dad too. I did call the nursing home to check in on him before clocking in, and the nurse told me he’d slept peacefully through the night. I wondered how gracious she would sound once he woke and they readied him for the day ahead. Zero pity rested in my heart for whoever worked the morning shift there at the nursing home. But I would visit with him around dinner time. Maybe sneak him some KFC.
