A week later, Mirabelle found herself seated at the opulent dinner table in the Fowler mansion with Dwayne and their parents. The twelve-seater brass and Oakwood table with two large chandeliers hanging over it had been set up for a five-course meal Mirabelle wasn’t sure she would be able to swallow or keep down once she had. Reaching for her glass of water, ignoring the wine and having absolutely no plans to touch that glass, Mirabelle tried to center herself. The table was only half occupied.
