Black coffee swirled in the mug as Mirabelle stirred the spoon absentmindedly for a full minute. There was no point to her action as she hadn’t added any sugar to the brew, but that piece of information seemed to have eluded her at that moment. Kara watched her friend from the other side of the small kitchen table, a deep frown creasing her forehead. Her own coffee half drunk, she tapped her finger against the mug, wondering what to say. Finally, Kara sighed, and the sound, although nothing louder than an exhale, seemed to jolt Mirabelle out of whatever daze she had been lost in.
