Epilogue SPRING From across the crowded restaurant, Christopher catches my attention. The Tuckers have been talking to him nonstop for the past fifteen minutes, but his focus is on me. He raises his glass and smiles. My fingers instinctively reach up to the locket around my neck. The party was my idea. A last-minute send off for Mom, who is headed to Paris with Sam for three weeks. Although she’s made a point of mentioning they’d be staying with Sam’s sister, who has several bedrooms. I scan the room, full to overflowing with friends and neighbors. Kids running between their parents’ legs, teenagers huddled in corners. Anthony and Danielle are talking at the far end of the front counter.
