CHAPTER SIX Shell stood by himself under a street lamp at a street corner in Phoenix, his hands gripping the straps of his backpack as he looked up and down the street occasionally. Every now and then, he’d look at his suit-up watch, just to make sure that he was not late, but it seemed like the numbers on the digital display of his watch changed far more slowly than they should have, as if one minute had been stretched into five. Shell wasn’t exactly afraid to be outside by himself at night; however, he still felt awkward and nervous, mostly because he rarely went out to any city at night, but especially cities that he was not very familiar with.
