****Chapter 2: The Transformation Unveiled**** During lunch, Alex found himself alone. Jake had met Sarah Flow, a fellow first-year student, and despite his dislike for libraries, he followed her there—anything for love, he mused. Meanwhile, Alex sat in the bustling canteen, his thoughts lingering on the events of the previous night. The food tasted off today, just like breakfast had. He wondered if the recipe had changed or if something was wrong with him. Alex couldn't shake off the headache that spiked whenever he tried to remember the face of the mysterious man who had saved him. "I need to stop thinking about all this," he muttered. He hadn't even told Jake about the incident, knowing his friend would never let him hear the end of it. Deciding he needed a drink to wash down the bad taste, he headed to the vending machine and grabbed a can of Coke. As he sipped his drink, he overheard a conversation. Two students were discussing how to bully a first-year student for not giving up his lunchbox. Intrigued and concerned, Alex decided to investigate, realizing that despite the noise in the canteen, he could hear the conversation clearly from a distance. He discovered the voices belonged to two second-year bullies. Despite his usual reluctance to get involved in others' problems, Alex couldn't ignore this situation. He followed the bullies to the back of the school, where he saw a boy tied up and beaten. A surge of adrenaline propelled him forward. Without thinking, Alex charged at the leader, punching him square in the face. The leader fell, and Alex quickly untied the boy, telling him to run. The boy, showing gratitude, dashed away. The leader stood up, cursing Alex. "Who the hell are you? It doesn't matter. You're going to pay for this," he snarled. The bullies surrounded Alex, and he braced himself for the worst. To his surprise, the first attack came slowly, and he easily dodged it. The second attack was just as slow. Shocked, Alex realized his reflexes were heightened. When the leader moved to punch him, Alex blocked it and struck back with all his strength, sending the leader flying. The remaining bullies stared in disbelief. One swung a stick at Alex, who blocked it with his arm, shattering the stick. Alex then punched the assailant in the face, knocking him out. The last bully fled, but Alex caught and subdued him. Leaving the scene with a mix of satisfaction and confusion, Alex pondered his newfound abilities. He returned to school, heading straight to the restroom to gather his thoughts. His eyesight was perfect, even without his glasses, and his hearing was unnaturally sharp. "What is happening to me?" he wondered. "I feel strange... stronger." After school, Alex went to his part-time job despite it being his day off. The manager, Mr. Aang was a short, rotund man in his forties who had given Alex the job. "Hi, Mr. Aang. You called me?" "Yes, Alex. We tried reaching you yesterday, but your phone was off," Mr. Aang said. Alex remembered losing his phone during the incident. "I had a small incident last night. I was attacked by a gang and passed out." Mr. Aang nodded. "I understand. Don’t worry about the losses. You've been a hardworking employee." "Thank you, Mr. Aang." As Alex left, Mr. Aang remarked on the full moon that night. Walking home, Alex smelled blood. He followed the scent to an alley where a man was robbing someone at knifepoint. Alex called out, allowing the victim to escape. The attacker turned to Alex, demanding his money. Before Alex could react, intense pain surged through his body. His bones cracked and reshaped, causing him to collapse. The attacker, thinking he had an easy target, laughed. But as Alex's transformation completed, he stood up, feeling a powerful change within him. Two hours later, Alex woke up in a park near his street, naked and covered in blood. Disoriented, he sneaked back home through the bushes and climbed into his room through the window. Just as he thought he was safe, his little sister, Lapis, caught him. "What are you doing in my room?" he exclaimed, quickly covering himself. "I heard a noise outside and came to check," Lapis replied. "Get out!" he demanded. "Not until you tell me why you’re naked," she insisted. After some back-and-forth, Alex made up a story about swimming in the lake and losing his clothes. Satisfied, Lapis left, and Alex quickly changed and went to dinner. He lied to his mother about his day, grateful that Mr. Aang hadn't reported the incident. That night, Alex reflected on his day. He was certain now—he was no longer human. He fell asleep, unaware of the profound changes his body was undergoing. The morning sun streamed through the window, waking Alex. As he stood up, he noticed changes. He was taller, his hair longer, and his once-skinny body was now well-built. His senses were heightened—he could see and hear with uncanny clarity. Downstairs, Lapis was stunned. "Who are you? And what were you doing in my brother's room?" "It's me, Lapis. I just look a bit different," Alex said. "You look like you had a makeover," she said, sceptical. "Maybe it’s my daily workout," Alex suggested. At breakfast, Alex devoured pancakes and steak, savouring the flavours. "Thanks, Mom. I'm off now." "Alex, you look different today. Did you have a makeover?" his mother asked. "No, Mom. See you later!" he replied, rushing out. Meeting Jake on the way, Alex greeted him. "Yo, Jake." Jake looked puzzled. "Are you talking to me?" "Jake, it’s me, Alex!" "Alex? You look like you had a makeover." "Enough with the makeover comments! Let's go," Alex said, feeling both flattered and frustrated. Throughout the day, Alex's senses sharpened unnaturally. His hearing became so acute that he could pick up whispers from across the room, and his eyesight allowed him to see details he had never noticed before. Even his sense of smell was heightened, able to detect scents from astonishing distances. As they navigated the crowded school halls, Jake couldn’t help but comment on Alex's new look. "Man, you should be in magazines. What happened to you?" Alex shrugged, trying to downplay the changes. "Just... some changes, I guess." In class, Alex struggled to concentrate. His senses were overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information—every sound, smell, and sight seemed amplified. During break, he decided to test his newfound abilities. Finding an empty classroom, he closed the door and sprinted from one end to the other in the blink of an eye. He lifted a desk with one hand, marvelling at how light it felt. "What am I?" he whispered to himself, bewildered. The canteen's offerings left him unsatisfied. Nothing appealed to him except the roasted meat. I need answers, he thought with mounting frustration. After school, Alex revisited the alley where his transformation had begun, hoping to uncover more clues. The dark alley still carried a faint scent of blood. Examining the ground, he found a piece of his torn shirt and a few drops of dried blood. Suddenly, the mysterious man in black who had saved him appeared at the alley's entrance. "You’re beginning to understand, aren’t you?" the man said, his voice low and knowing. "Who are you? What did you do to me?" Alex demanded, his confusion turning to anger. The man stepped closer, his eyes gleaming in the dim light. "I gave you a gift. I didn't have to, but it was the only way to save your life." "But what have I become?" Alex asked, a mix of fear and curiosity in his voice. "Figure it out. For now, you have powers—abilities beyond human capabilities. Use them wisely. But be careful, we are not alone." Before Alex could ask more questions, the man vanished into the shadows. Alex stood there, his mind racing with possibilities and fears. He knew he had to discover more about his transformation and the man who had altered his life so dramatically. That night, Alex lay in bed, unable to sleep. His body felt strange, and his mind was awash with questions. As he stared at the ceiling, he heard a faint rustling outside his window. Getting up, he peered outside, his enhanced vision cutting through the darkness. He saw a figure moving stealthily through the yard. Quietly, he followed the figure until he reached an abandoned building. The figure was a girl in a hood, speaking to someone else. "Frank, the leader is looking for you. You need to return to the base at once." "I've received your message. I will be there soon." As the girl was about to leave, she sniffed the air. "Someone is here." Alex, unsure why he had followed, decided to retreat. He ran through the familiar streets but soon heard the sound of an animal pursuing him. What the hell is that? It looks like a dog, but bigger. No, it looks more like a wolf. There shouldn't be wolves in this town! Right? Gosh, it’s catching up. I need to speed up. He ran through a corner, leapt onto a rooftop, and began jumping from one building to another with an agility that astonished even him. When he finally felt safe, he slowed down—only to find another figure blocking his path. It was the guy who had been talking to the girl. The wolf he thought he had outrun was right behind him, too. "Who are you guys?" Alex demanded, his voice shaking. The wolf stood up on two legs and transformed back into a human. Alex’s eyes widened in shock. She’s a wolf? No, she’s a werewolf! Then the other guy must be one, too! This is insane! "I should be asking who you are," the girl said, her eyes glinting with a predatory intensity. "You smell like one of us, but I’ve never seen you before. Which pack are you from? Answer me!" Alex’s mind raced. One of us? Am I a werewolf, too? Is that why I have these powers? Thinking back, he realized his abilities matched the descriptions in werewolf lore. But he had no scratch marks or bites. "I’m not in any pack," he stammered. "I just became a werewolf not long ago." The girl scrutinized him, then sniffed him again. Her killing intent faded. "True, he’s not lying," she said. Frank, the guy next to her, asked, "What should we do with him?" The girl looked at Alex, recognizing a familiar scent. She knew exactly who had turned him. "What is your name?" Alex hesitated, fearing for his family, but gave his first name. "I'm Alex." "Alex, I'm Izzy, and this is Frank. Normally, I would have killed you by now, but I will let you go—for now. Next time, I won’t be so merciful. Now leave." Grateful for his life, Alex fled. "Why did you let him go?" Frank asked. "There is something about that boy," Izzy replied. "There must be a reason why 'He' turned him into a werewolf." "Do you mean...?" "Yes. Let’s go back. We will ask 'Him' about it." Alex returned home and collapsed onto his bed, his mind racing. He had become a werewolf, and the super strength and enhanced senses made sense now. He remembered eating the man before blacking out, which had fully awakened his powers during the full moon. Shaken to his core, Alex didn’t know where to turn for help. Exhaustion finally claimed him, and he fell into a fitful sleep. As Alex drifted into uneasy dreams, shadows seemed to move at the edge of his consciousness. He saw glimpses of a dark forest, eyes gleaming in the night, and a haunting, echoing howl. A deep, authoritative voice spoke in his mind, "You are not alone, Alex. The full moon rises again soon. Be ready."
