Chapter 6: ADRIAN’S POV

1248 Words
I have dealt with killers, traitors, and men who would do anything to stay alive. And somehow, the drunk woman standing in front of me was the one I couldn't handle. "Are you gonna answer me, or are you just gonna sit there looking pretty?" she slurred, swaying slightly on her bare feet. Before I could even open my mouth, she lifted her glass of red wine and finished it in one gulp. Then her eyes landed on the whiskey in my hand. Without asking, she reached right across the table, snatched it straight out of my hand, and downed the rest. She shook her head dramatically.” That was a fine ass vodka. Then she looked up at me, “ I need more please, give me more. Behind me, Marco and the guards immediately shifted, their hands moving toward their weapons. I raised one finger, stopping them before they could do anything. I kept my eyes on her. I stared at her. “That was whiskey, not vodka."I corrected her. She frowned at the glass in my hand as if it had personally offended her. “Whatever. It tasted expensive and I want more. She pointed at me. “Don’t laugh. I know rich people like you have better alcohol hidden somewhere.” “Rich people like me?” “Yes, you are definitely rich. You have bodyguards,” she said, as though that explained everything. “Nobody has bodyguards unless they are either very important or very annoying!" Now please give me more whiskey. “You want more? Ain’t you scared of me?” I asked her. She stared at me for a few seconds, squinting she was seriously trying to figure out what I meant. “Should I be?” I raised an eyebrow." Huh? I should have sent her back downstairs. Instead, I found myself wondering what had happened to her before she walked into my booth. She glanced at Marco, then at the guards standing behind me. “Okay, okay, maybe a little.” She leaned closer and lowered her voice. “But you don't look scary.” “I don't?” She shook her head confidently. "No. You look like you need a hug.” Marco suddenly coughed into his fist. I slowly turned my eyes toward him and he immediately stopped coughing. She let out a small laugh. "You and me," she declared, slamming my glass on the table with a loud crack. I was a little surprised that the glass didn’t break. "Let’s have a drinking competition. Right now. And if I win, you have to let me kiss you. My friends dared me to kiss the moody guy in the suit, and I never back down from a dare. And also, you will give me a full bottle of alcohol for my friends.” She added pointing downstairs where one of her friend was already passed out and the were waving at us She leaned in closer, her breath smelling of alcohol. "Plus, if I win, you have to stop frowning like the world is ending." I touched my forehead. “Do I really frown that much?” She nodded seriously. “You look like someone just stole your favorite puppy.” “I-I don't own a puppy.” “Exactly. That's why you are so sad.” come here let me give you a hug. I leaned back against the sofa and raised an eyebrow. "You have had way too much to drink tonight, go back to your friends." "No!" She screamed. The word came out louder than she probably intended. Her eyes suddenly filled with tears. "Nobody loves me anyway!" she sobbed, wiping her wet face with the back of her hand, not giving a single damn how wrecked she looked. "Everyone leaves! Everyone lies! Why should I go back? My hear is completely shattered!” I stared at her for a moment, caught off guard by the sudden change. I wasn't expecting that because I refused to play her silly game with her. She grabbed a bottle of whiskey from the ice bucket, poured herself another drink with shaking hands, and swallowed it almost immediately. "You wanna know what happened?!" she gasped, hiccuping as she leaned heavily over my table, her tear-stained face inches from my jaw. "I worked sixteen-hour shifts! Sixteen f*****g hours! Smelling like grease and cheap coffee just to pay rent for five years just to support my boyfriend, and also pay for his mother's treatment. She pointed at herself, tears running down her cheeks. And I came home last night and I caught him! Naked! In my bed! With a damn man! He’s gay. And you know what the painful part was? She asked sniffing as she took a sip of her drink. "I don't know, you tell me." My boyfriend was bent over like a b***h! With makeups all over his face!" She let out a bitter laugh. "And you know what that bastard told me?" She reached out and grabbed the lapel of my custom suit jacket just to keep herself upright. "He told me to stop being dramatic! He said his lover was moving in, and I had to keep paying the bills! Can you believe that?” She hiccuped again before continuing her ranting.” He said, the three of us will become a happy family!” “Men are trash! Absolute, irredeemable garbage! I am never trusting another man again as long as I live. Never!" She released my jacket, slumping back slightly and wiping her runny nose with her forearm. "All I want tonight is to drink until I forget his stupid face. So drink with me, moody stranger and let me win my dare." For the first time in my life, a woman has left me completely speechless. People usually trembled when they stood in front of me, some even ran away when they heard my name. And nobody certainly ever tried to play a drunken game of truth-or-dare with the head of the Northern Mafia Ring. And yet, somehow, this woman was doing all three without the slightest idea who she was sitting across from. She suddenly looked down at her bare feet and froze, as though she just realized something important. “Wait.” I raised an eyebrow."what? She looked at one foot, then the other, blinking like the answer might magically appear. “Where are my shoes?” I glanced toward the stairs. “You left them downstairs.” Her eyes widened. “I did?” “Yes, you did." She stared at me for a fewseconds, apparently trying to remember where she had left them "Whatever, let's have our drinking competition so that I can kiss you quickly and go back to my wonderful friends downstairs." She said, looking at the bottle of whiskey with excitement. I looked at her bare feet and tear-streaked face and I couldn't stop myself from smiling. She was completely out of her mind and she was the most interesting person I had ever laid my eyes on this night. "Never trusting another man again, but you want to kiss me if you win?" I asked. a dangerous smirk tugging at my lips as I gestured for Marco to bring another bottle. I poured two heavy shots, pushing one towards her, then lifted my own. "Alright, little disaster," I picked up my own glass and held her gaze. “Let's see if you can win your dare.
