Episode 8: Blood Ties The word barely escaped Amara’s lips. “Dad…?” The man stepped forward into the dim warehouse light, his face no longer hidden by shadows. Older, harder—but unmistakably him. Victor Hale. Alive. Amara’s breath caught in her throat as the world tilted beneath her feet. Every memory she had, every piece of grief she had carried for years, cracked open in an instant. “You’re…” She couldn’t finish the sentence. “Alive,” he said calmly. Kade moved slightly in front of her, his posture tense. “This is a trap.” Victor’s gaze flicked to him. “You always were the cautious type.” “You know me?” Kade asked, narrowing his eyes. “I know a lot of things,” Victor replied. “Including the fact that you shouldn’t have brought her here.” Amara stepped around Kade, her shock quickly turning into anger. “Don’t. Don’t act like you get to say anything about what I should or shouldn’t do.” Victor’s expression softened—just a fraction. “Amara—” “No!” she snapped. “You don’t get to say my name like that. You don’t get to stand there and pretend this is normal. You died. I buried you!” “You buried a lie,” he said quietly. The words hit her harder than any shout. “Why?” she demanded. “Why would you do that? Why would you leave me?” Victor exhaled, glancing briefly toward the far end of the warehouse, as if measuring time. “Because it was the only way to keep you alive.” Amara laughed bitterly. “Alive? You call this living? You disappeared, and suddenly my life turns into some kind of nightmare—and you expect me to believe this was for me?” “You were never supposed to get involved,” he said. “But I did,” she shot back. “And now Daniel is paying the price!” At the mention of Daniel, something shifted in Victor’s expression. Not guilt. Not quite. But recognition. “So it’s true,” he said. “They took him.” Amara’s fists clenched. “You knew that was going to happen, didn’t you?” “No,” Victor said firmly. “But I knew they would come after something… or someone… eventually.” Kade stepped in, voice cold. “Then you know where he is.” Victor hesitated. “That wasn’t a question,” Kade added. Victor’s gaze hardened. “You’re in no position to make demands.” “And you’re in no position to play games,” Kade shot back. “We didn’t come here for a reunion.” Amara’s voice cut through the tension. “Enough.” Both men turned to her. “You’re going to tell me everything,” she said, her tone steady despite the storm inside her. “Right now. No more secrets.” Victor studied her for a long moment, as if seeing her not as his daughter, but as something else entirely—someone stronger, someone dangerous. Finally, he nodded.
