Chapter Eighteen
This time, the Governor of Elmhurst Prison seemed markedly reluctant to allow them to see Babbington. ‘The professor was very upset the last time you spoke to him,’ he observed coolly.
‘He asked for the visit,’ Rafferty pointedly reminded him. ‘Perhaps it’ll please him to know we’ve now got another possible suspect.’
‘Really?’
‘Really.’
Governor Endecott’s face wrapped them both in a happy smile, though at least this time he didn’t attempt an embrace. The objection he’d raised was brushed aside, and there were no difficulties about seeing Babbington after that.
