Lyris POV I found Emily around the back of the east corridor, in the narrow stretch between the laundry block and the equipment shed where nobody had a reason to be unless they were trying not to be seen. It was where we always met when there was something that needed to be said that couldn't be said anywhere else. She was already there when I arrived, leaning against the wall with her arms crossed, looking like someone who had convinced herself she hadn't done anything wrong. That expression alone was enough to make the irritation sharpen into something colder. I let the door swing shut behind me and kept my voice low. "What was that?" Emily blinked. "What was what?" "The waving." I stepped closer, not rushing, just closing the distance until she had nowhere comfortable to look.
