EPISODE 6: THE EDGE OF DARKNESS (PART II)

370 Words
The silence between them didn’t last. It shattered. Footsteps echoed from deeper inside the building—multiple, fast, and closing in. Dominic’s entire body shifted instantly, every trace of hesitation gone. In its place was something far more dangerous—instinct, precision, control. He moved in front of Alessia without thinking, placing himself between her and the approaching threat. “Stay behind me,” he said firmly. But Alessia didn’t move. Instead, she stepped closer. “No,” she said quietly. “Not this time.” Dominic glanced back at her, irritation flashing briefly. “This isn’t something you argue with.” “And this isn’t something you face alone anymore,” she replied. For a split second, something in his expression broke—just enough for her to see the conflict beneath the surface. Then the first figure appeared in the shadows ahead. And then another. Alessia’s breath caught. This was real. This was his world. “Go,” Dominic said under his breath. “Now.” She shook her head. “I’m not leaving you.” His voice dropped, sharper this time. “Alessia—” “I’m not afraid of them,” she interrupted. His gaze locked onto hers. “You should be,” he said quietly. But she wasn’t looking at the men anymore. She was looking at him. “Maybe,” she admitted softly. “But I’m more afraid of walking away from you.” That did it. Something inside him snapped—not in anger, but in surrender. For the first time since she met him, Dominic DeLuca didn’t look like a man in control. He looked like a man who had lost a battle he never meant to fight. Slowly, deliberately, he reached back—and took her hand. His grip was firm. Grounding. Dangerously certain. “If you stay,” he said, his voice low and steady again, “there’s no going back.” Alessia didn’t hesitate. “I already crossed that line.” The footsteps grew louder. The tension sharpened. But neither of them let go. Because in that moment—between fear and choice, darkness and truth—they had already decided. Whatever came next… They would face it together.
