Chapter 3 Beneath His Gaze Mary’s POV Before it, it was morning and the cold sting of the air conditioner brushed against my peerless skin, dragging me halfway out of sleep. In desperation, I reached for the covers, but my hand froze as I realized something. I was naked. Fully stark naked. “f**k,” I muttered, bolting upright as the last remnants of sleep dissolved completely. My heart pounded in my chest as I scanned the unfamiliar room with seriousness. “Where…where am I?” The words tumbled from my lips in a whisper, barely audible over my frantic heavy breaths. Pieces of last night began to resurface like a movie reel playing in reverse. Hot, wandering hands. Dark, piercing eyes. His voice, a deep, seductive baritone that dripped with sin. The sy he touched me and the fire his touches did to my body. I slapped my forehead. “God, Mary, what the hell did you do?” Wrapping the duvet around my trembling body, I scoured the room for any sign of him. Nothing. No shirt. No cologne lingering in the air. It was as if he’d vanished into thin air without a trace. “Good,” I muttered. “At least I won’t have to face him after…that steamy s*x we had.” The memory of our steamy night flashed vividly in my mind, igniting a fire in my cheeks. His touch, his lips, the way he whispered my name as though it belonged to him, I could feel my v****a getting wet just by the thoughts of him. “Stop it,” I hissed, shaking the thoughts away. “Get yourself to together.” I stumbled into the bathroom, splashed cold water on my face, and got dressed, trying to piece together how I even ended up here. Memories of last night was like a maze in mind. My phone buzzed violently on the nightstand. Twelve missed calls. Stella. Dad. My PA. A message from Stella caught my attention: “Hey b***h, I’m already gone. Hope you enjoyed your hot night with Mr. Mysterious! 😘” Attached was a picture. Him. His smoldering blue eyes, dark tousled hair, and the confident smirk that had drawn me in like a moth to a flame, the fire in his eyes. “Stella, I swear, I’ll kill you.” Yet, I couldn’t stop staring at the photo. Every detail of his face was etched into my memory. The way his lips felt against mine, the kisses he trailed down my body, the way his hands… I shook my head violently. “Enough!” As I zipped up my bag, a small card fell onto the floor. I picked it up, recognizing the neat handwriting immediately. “I really enjoyed last night. Love, Andrew.” “Love?” I scoffed. “If you enjoyed it so much, you could’ve stayed, so that I would have seen you.” I crumpled the note and shoved it into my bag without hesitation. When I finally got home, my Dad was waiting for me in the living room, worry etched into every line of his face. “Baby, where have you been?” “I’m sorry, Dad. I got caught up in something.” He studied me, his worry fading into something else entirely. “Any chance a rich man caught your attention, At the party?” I forced a laugh. “Nothing like that besides It’s too early to tell.” “Well, if there is, don’t let him go. Do whatever it takes to make it serious,” he said, kissing my forehead before retreating to his study. My heart sank. If only he knew, that his precious daughter had one night stand with a man she doesn't know. Just the thought of it sounded awkward. The exhaustion from the steamy night before hit me like a wave as I crawled into bed lazily. Sleep came instantly, but it didn’t last for long, so I thought. My phone’s ringtone jolted me awake. “What is it?” I groaned, my voice heavy with sleep. “Ma’am, we have a crisis,” my PA blurted out. “Our biggest buyer just pulled out of the market.” “What?” I shot upright, the haze of sleep gone in an instant. “We need to act fast. If we don’t secure another investor, we’ll be bankrupt within twenty-four hours.” I hung up, my chest tightening. This wasn’t just my company, it was my father’s legacy, My father's pride and I would watch as it would go down. I have to do something now and fast. Minutes later, I called Dad. “Yes, I know,” he said, his voice calm but tinged with unease. “We have a meeting tonight with the De La Cruz family.” My blood ran cold. “De La Cruz? As in the mafia family?” “Yes.” “Dad, they’re dangerous, very dangerous” “We don’t have a choice, Mary. Desperate times call for desperate measures. You know that” The weight of his words settled heavily on me. “The meeting’s at 9 p.m. I’ll send you the location. Don’t be late.” After ending the call, I sat frozen. The De La Cruz family wasn’t just dangerous; they were ruthless. And their leader, the devil himself, as they called him, was shrouded in mystery. Till today, I don't know why Stella still has the huge crush on him, I would not blame her every girl in the city does. Except Me. I dressed carefully, following my father’s strange instructions to “look nice.” A red, sleeveless gown hugged my figure, its slit adding just enough allure. My curls fell effortlessly down my back as I applied a touch of makeup. When I finally arrived at the bar’s VIP section, my nerves were frayed. My father sat across from a man in a red mask. “That must be him,” I muttered, my stomach churning. “Finally,” the man said, his voice deep and commanding. Something about him struck me. His voice, it was Familiar. “Sorry. Traffic,” I said, forcing a polite smile. “Traffic indeed,” he replied, his British accent cutting through the tension. My father chuckled nervously to hide the tension brewing “You know how women can be.” “Indeed,” the man replied, his gaze sharp beneath the mask. “But since we’re going to be partners, there’s no need to hide my face.” My heart skipped a beat as he reached for the mask. I was more than curious to see the face of the man behind the mask. In one swift motion, he pulled it off, revealing a face I thought I’d never see again. My breath caught. My heart stopped momentarily for a second. Words seemed to come out of my mouth but no words followed. “It’s you!” The words escaped before I could stop them. Andrew. The stranger that I had one night stand with, the one I thought I’d left behind, was now sitting across from me, the same piercing blue eyes were now locking onto mine. And the smirk he has on his face told me he wasn’t done with me yet. I just hope things doesn't escalate.
