Chapter 1 Beginning of Fire. Mary's POV Being the only child and daughter of the CEO of one of the biggest beverage companies in the country meant my life was always about responsibilities, carrying out various responsibilities of the company, forgoing my own need. Meetings, reports, and salvaging the company’s finances had become my daily reality. The competition was fierce, and with a new rival company dominating the market, things at our family business were crumbling at a rapid rate. My father’s life long dream was at risk, and I was doing everything in my power to keep it alive. While I was thinking deep in my office, my phone rang, it was Stella my best friend. “Hey Mary! There’s this amazing party tonight, and we have to go!” Stella, chirped over the phone, her excitement nearly contagious. “Come on! You might meet your future boyfriend there!, Or more you might meet your future husband!” I sighed, spinning a pen between my fingers as I leaned back in my office chair. “Stella, I don’t think it’s a good idea. I’ve got too much on my plate. I don't think I have time for party.” “Oh, come on!” she whined. “You’re working yourself to death. Just one night to let loose! You deserve this. You have worked enough, just one night wouldn't hurt.” I hesitated, but deep down, I knew she had a point. I couldn’t remember the last time I had done something for myself, or just had fun. One night couldn’t hurt. Right? It wouldn't? “Alright,” I relented. “But just this once And no more.” “Yes!” she squealed happily. “I’ll send you the address. Don’t be late!” When I got home that evening, my father was in his study room. I knocked on the door and stepped in. “Princess,” he greeted, opening his arms for a hug. “You look tired. How was work?” “Exhausting,” I admitted, sinking into his embrace. “Dad, the company… It’s bad. I’m scared we won’t make it.I am doing all I can but it feels like whatever I do is not working” He sighed, brushing a strand of hair from my face. “Mary, you’ve done all you can. Sometimes, you need to step back and take a breath. You’re young beautiful woman. Enjoy life a little.” I took a big sigh, “well I have a party this night”. His eyebrows shot up in surprise, “What!!, Really that's wonderful”. “That's nice , make sure you use condom and make sure you capture a young handsome rich man, You're not getting any younger” he smirked. “Dad!!” My face flushed as I left his room, his laugh echoing behind me. His words echoed in my head as I got ready for the party. My red dress clung to my curves, highlighting my hourglass figure. The sleek fabric shimmered under the light, and my brown hair cascaded in loose waves down my back. I studied myself in the mirror, nerves kicking in. The dress felt too bold, too revealing. I was about to change when Stella’s call interrupted. “Don’t even think about backing out!” she warned. With a resigned sigh, I slipped on my heels and let the driver take me to the address she sent. The bar was on the far side of the city, the kind of place where the elite gathered to unwind. “Oh no, what have I gotten myself into?” I muttered as I stepped out of the car. Stella spotted me immediately and squealed. “Mary, you look incredible! Every guy in there is going to lose their minds!” I groaned. “I don’t want to be the center of attention.” “Too late for that,” she said, grabbing my hand and pulling me inside. The bar was buzzing with energy. The dim lighting, the rhythmic pulse of the music, and the chatter of well-dressed strangers created a charged atmosphere. Stella didn’t waste a second, disappearing into the crowd. Left alone, I drifted toward the bar and ordered a drink. One drink turned into two, and before I knew it, I was feeling the effects. The music seemed louder, the room warmer, and my inhibitions began to melt away. The dance floor called to me, and for the first time in years, I let go. The music throbbed as I swayed to the beat, my body moving freely. I didn’t care who was watching. It was liberating. But then I felt it, a pair of eyes burning into me from across the room. I turned, and there he was. Tall, broad-shouldered, and devastatingly handsome,He had this mysterious air around him. He leaned casually against the bar, a glass in his hand. His dark hair was perfectly tousled, and his piercing blue eyes locked onto mine with an intensity that made my breath hitch. My heart raced. Who was he? As if drawn by an invisible thread, he began walking toward me, his movements smooth and deliberate. I froze, caught in the magnetic pull of his gaze. He stopped just inches away, the scent of his cologne, a mix of cedarwood and spice, filling the space between us. “Dance with me,” he said, his voice low and rich. Before I could respond, his hand slipped around my waist, pulling me closer. The world faded. It was just him and me. Our bodies moved in perfect sync, the rhythm of the music guiding us. His touch was firm but gentle, his hand splayed against the small of my petite waist sending shivers down my spine. His eyes never left mine, the intensity of his stare almost overwhelming me. And then it happened I leaned in my lips brushing against his, he didn't hesitate, capturing my lips with a passion that made my knees buckle. The kiss ignited a fire, raw, consuming and impossible to stop. I didn't care who was watching, all I knew was enveloping my self in the warmth of his lips and fire that his touch brought on my body. As his lips moved on mine, his tongue interwined with mine. It ignited a hunger in me, that I didn't know I had. His hand tangled in my hair, and his other hand wrapped round my waist, pulling me closer to him till there was no space between us. And at that moment, under the blinding lights of the bar and pounding music. I know I was playing with fire, But I didn't care. For the first time in a while, I wnated to burn.
