The Lunar Binding Curse

1186 Words
Hazel's heart pounded in her chest as she watched Jordan's retreating figure disappear into the crowd. The confrontation with him and Alpha Logan had left her feeling off-balance, a whirlwind of emotions swirling within her. Part of her was elated that Jordan had claimed her as his mate, a possessive gesture that ignited a spark of hope within her. But the other part was furious at his high-handed behaviour, his insistence on treating her like a possession rather than an equal. Hazel let out a frustrated sigh, running a hand through her hair. Just when she thought she had a handle on the situation, Jordan had to go and complicate things further. Sensing her distress, Logan placed a gentle hand on her arm. Are you alright, Hazel? He asked, his brow furrowed with concern. Hazel offered him a weak smile, trying to regain her composure. I'm fine, she lied, her gaze drifting towards the door once more. Just... caught off guard, that's all. Logan nodded, his expression understanding. I can imagine this must be a lot to take in, he said, his voice low and soothing. If you need someone to talk to, I'm here. Hazel felt a pang of gratitude towards the alpha, his kindness a stark contrast to Jordan's possessive behaviour. Thank you, she said, her voice barely above a whisper. I appreciate that. As the party continued around them, Hazel found herself unable to focus, her mind consumed by thoughts of Jordan and the implications of his claim. She needed to understand what had changed in the years since she had left, why he was acting so differently. Excusing herself from Logan's company, Hazel made her way through the crowded room, her eyes scanning the faces of the pack members, searching for any sign of Amanda. She needed to talk to her best friend, to get a better understanding of the situation. It didn't take long for Hazel to spot Amanda, who was engaged in a lively conversation with a group of pack members. Catching her eye, Hazel gestured for her to join her in a quieter corner of the room. Amanda's expression shifted from one of amusement to concern as she approached Hazel. What's wrong? She asked, her voice low and urgent. Hazel took a deep breath, her gaze darting around to ensure they weren't overheard. What's going on with Jordan? She asked, her voice barely above a whisper. He just... claimed me as his mate, in front of everyone. Amanda's eyes widened, and she glanced around nervously. Oh, Hazel, she breathed, her expression a mix of sympathy and worry. I was hoping this wouldn't happen. Hazel felt her heart sink, the knot of dread in her stomach tightening. What do you mean? She asked, her voice laced with apprehension. Amanda's gaze met Hazel's, her eyes filled with a seriousness that Hazel had never seen before. Jordan... he's not the same as he used to be, she said, her voice barely above a whisper. Something's wrong with him, Hazel. Something _very_ wrong. Hazel felt a chill run down her spine, the hairs on the back of her neck standing on end. What are you talking about? She pressed, her voice tinged with a hint of desperation. Amanda glanced around once more, her expression grave. I think we need to get out of here, she said, her hand grasping Hazel's arm. There's something I need to show you. Without another word, Amanda led Hazel out of the crowded room and towards the pack's private gardens. Hazel's mind raced, a thousand questions swirling in her head, but she knew better than to press her friend for answers in the middle of the party. As they stepped into the secluded garden, the sounds of the party faded, replaced by the gentle rustling of leaves and the chirping of crickets. Hazel followed Amanda to a secluded bench, her heart pounding in her chest. Alright, Hazel said, her voice steady despite the turmoil within her. What's going on, Amanda? What's wrong with Jordan? Amanda took a deep breath, her gaze meeting Hazel's with a solemn intensity. Hazel, Jordan... he's under the influence of a lunar binding curse. Hazel felt the blood drain from her face, her mind reeling at the implications of Amanda's words. A lunar binding curse? She whispered, her voice laced with disbelief. But how is that possible? Amanda's expression was grave, her eyes filled with a mixture of concern and sorrow. It happened shortly after you left, she explained, her voice low and steady. Jordan... he's been struggling with it ever since. Hazel's heart sank, the pieces of the puzzle slowly falling into place. The way Jordan had acted, the possessiveness, the change in his demeanour – it all made sense now. A lunar binding curse, she murmured, her gaze fixed on the ground. That would explain why he's been so different. Amanda nodded, her hand reaching out to squeeze Hazel's. It's been hell for him, Hazel, she said, her voice thick with emotion. He's been fighting to keep it under control, but it's been a constant battle. Hazel felt a pang of guilt and sympathy for her former mate, her heart aching at the thought of him suffering alone. If only she had been there, she thought, her fingers tracing the crescent moon tattoo on her wrist. But how did this happen? Hazel asked, her brow furrowed in confusion. Who would do this to him? Amanda's expression darkened, and Hazel could see the worry etched on her features. That's the thing, Hazel, she said, her voice barely above a whisper. We don't know. It's been a mystery ever since it happened. Hazel's mind raced, trying to piece together the puzzle. If Jordan was under the influence of a lunar binding curse, it would explain his erratic behaviour, his possessiveness, and his reluctance to fully claim her as his mate. But what did this mean for their future? Hazel felt a surge of determination, her resolve hardening. She had come back to reclaim her life, to make Jordan regret pushing her away. And now, with this new revelation, she knew she had to do whatever it took to help him. Hazel, Amanda's voice cut through her thoughts, her expression filled with concern. I know this is a lot to take in, but... I need you to be careful. Jordan, he's not in his right mind. The curse, it's... it's changing him. Hazel nodded, her gaze unwavering. I understand, she said, her voice laced with a newfound determination. But I'm not going anywhere, Amanda. Not this time. I'm going to help Jordan, no matter what it takes. With a deep breath, Hazel rose from the bench, her eyes filled with a steely resolve. She had come back to make things right, and she wasn't about to let a curse stand in her way. Whatever was happening to Jordan, she would find a way to break it, to save him from the darkness that threatened to consume him. And as she walked back towards the pack house, Hazel knew that her journey had only just begun.
