The man he could never be Chapter 4– Daniel Loses It Daniel’s truck pulled into Alexander’s driveway an hour later. Fast. Angry. Kayla watched through the window. “Well… here comes the drama.” Alexander didn’t move from the kitchen. “Let him come.” Daniel stormed through the front door without knocking. “WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?” His eyes landed on Kayla. Then on Alexander. Kayla leaned casually against the counter. “Good morning, Daniel.” Daniel pointed at her. “You’re staying with HIM?” Alexander’s voice cut through the room. “Lower your voice.” Daniel turned toward his father. “You’re taking my girlfriend now?!” Kayla scoffed. “Ex girlfriend.” Daniel looked furious. “You’re doing this to get back at me.” Kayla folded her arms. “No Daniel. I’m doing this because you cheated.” Daniel opened his mouth. Then closed it again. Alexander stepped forward slowly. His presence filled the room instantly. “You embarrassed her,” he said calmly. Daniel rolled his eyes. “Oh please.” Alexander’s voice dropped. “You disrespected her.” Now Daniel looked annoyed. “Why do you care so much?” The room went quiet. Alexander looked directly at his son. Then said something that made Kayla’s stomach flip. “Because she deserves a real man.” Daniel laughed sarcastically. “Oh yeah? And that’s you?” Alexander didn’t smile. “Yes.” The tension in the room snapped like a wire. Daniel looked between them. “You’re insane.” Kayla shrugged. “Yet here I am.” Daniel pointed at her again. “You’ll regret this.” Alexander stepped closer. One calm step. It was enough to make Daniel lower his voice. “You’re not welcome here anymore,” Alexander said quietly. Daniel stared at him. “You’re choosing her over your own son?” Alexander’s voice was cold. “I’m choosing respect.” Daniel shook his head in disbelief. Then stormed out of the house. The door slammed. Silence returned. Kayla exhaled slowly. “Well.” Alexander turned toward her. “Are you okay?” Kayla nodded. Then smiled slightly. “You know… I think you just stole your son’s girlfriend.” Alexander stepped closer. His green eyes dark. “No.” His voice dropped. “He lost you.”
