Nobody's son. Nobody's daughter

440 Words
Dante I don't want to be here. Dad made it sound like this vacation would be for us to spend some time together as a family but he's actually here for work. The second we landed, he hopped into a separate car from us and said he'll see us at the villa in a few hours because he had some things to take care of. Now I'm sitting on a stool by the kitchen island as my sister, Harper makes her a smoothie and I ignore that I saw her throw vodka in it. When she's done making it, she takes a seat on the stool next to mine "Do you think that's why mom and dad didn't work out? Because he's always busy with work?" She asks before sipping her smoothie "No, they didn't work out because she cheated" I say dryly and she choke on her smoothie as she laughs, laughing I gently pat her back "You good?" She coughs before clearing her throat "Yeah, I'm good" I nod before crossing over my arms over my chest and we sit in comfortable silence for a while before she says "We should make the most out of this vacation with or without dad. We in fucken Bali after all" I scoff a laugh before nodding "You're right" I glance at her "What do you wanna do first?" I ask, even though I already know the answer "Beach" "Thought so. Let's meet in ten minutes" We fist bump before heading to the rooms we picked out to get changed for the beach. Harper and I have always been close even though she's two years old than me. Sometimes I feel like I'm the oldest with how reckless she is, but she's my best friend and if dad won't spend time with us then she and I can spend it alone. Despite the way Harper and I joke about dad, we know that mom cheating on him really broke his heart. And I think overworking is his way of keeping himself occupied? I don't know though. Harper said she once heard mom tell dad that she cheated because he doesn't have money for the lifestyle she wants and in turn dad works hard now to try and make up for it, even though she already left him. And mom is living the life she always wanted with expensive clothes, jewelry and traveling around the world. The only thing is that she forgot she had children. Ten minutes later Harper and I are making our way to the beach and I have one mindset. I plan to have the best summer.
